The Los Angeles Dodgers have been without Roki Sasaki for a long time. Their starting rotation was hit with several pitchers on the injured list. However, things slowly began to take shape after Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell returned.
The Dodgers landed Sasaki and strengthened their rotation further. Yet, things didn’t go well for the Japanese star. His MLB debut was not so pleasant, and he struggled to adapt in the big leagues. To make things worse, Sasaki was placed on the IL due to a shoulder injury.
Roki Sasaki To Return Next Month
Sasaki was placed on a 60-day IL. He’s not pitched since May 13 and was struggling with pain. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts never wanted to risk anything further as they placed him on the IL.
Many anticipated that Sasaki’s struggles in the big league were due to his injury. Dodgers fans eagerly await his return and look forward to his performance. Despite all the hype, Roki Sasaki’s performance was subpar, posting a 4.72 ERA with a 1-1 record.

Sasaki recently talked to Dodgers reporter Kirsten Stewart. The pitcher mentioned that he’s pain-free and he’s waiting to get back on the mound to pitch again.
“I’m just really relieved that I’m pain-free. My every intention is to get back on a Major League mound and pitch again. With that being said, I do need to fight for the opportunity. I don’t think that I’ll just be given the opportunity right away. So this month is going to be important for me, since I’ll be facing hitters throughout,” Roki Sasaki said.
The pitcher further acknowledged that he’s experienced issues adjusting in the big leagues. He also compared the different approaches by American and Japanese hitters.
“American hitters have different approaches at the plate compared to Japanese hitters, so now I can’t really attack the same way that I used to in Japan. And also at the same time, they have different strengths and weaknesses. So [I’m trying to be] able to have more variety in the way I attack the hitters,” Roki Sasaki continued.
The Japanese star eagerly hopes for a strong comeback as he gets on the mound. The Dodgers need Sasaki to step up his performance, especially during the playoffs.
