Cam Thomas’s offseason took an unexpected turn. After putting up career-best numbers last season with the Brooklyn Nets, the 23-year-old remains unsigned. His possible landing with a long-term deal worth $100 million also faded, as the Nets reportedly offered just two years at $28 million with a team option.
With no major offers from other teams, Thomas is considering accepting his $5.99 million qualifying offer. That would make him an unrestricted free agent next summer, but it comes with risk. An injury or slump could cost him millions. Meanwhile, the Nets are in no rush, focusing on adding key pieces like Michael Porter Jr. and building through the draft.
According to Bleacher Report’s Jake Fischer, there would be a trade possibility for Cam Thomas. “Most likely of all the restricted free agents to be taking the qualifying offer,” he said.
“He’s[Thomas] without a doubt, from various conversations I’ve had with people with knowledge of the situation, views himself as a starter in this league as someone who is deserving of that 30-plus average annual value that $30 million average.”
Unless the market shifts or Nets change course, Thomas looks ready to bet on himself in a high-stakes contract year.

At just 23, Thomas averaged over 24 points last season, but he still did not land anywhere. The Brooklyn Nets offered him under $15 million per year, which is far below his reported demand of $30-40 million.
Thomas compares himself to players like Jalen Green and Tyler Herro, who landed big deals despite similar stats and limited minutes. While his ask may mark high numbers, the Net’s offer seems low for a young scorer.
Thomas may take the qualifying offer and test free agency next year if both sides remain silent.
