Speaker Mike “Tiny” Johnson’s political house is fully on fire—and at this rate, he may be looking for a new job long before next year’s midterms send him packing. Donald Trump has ignited yet another Republican civil war, and the incredible part is that Johnson doesn’t even seem to realize he’s at the center of it.
Grab your gas masks, folks. You’ll want to watch this slow-motion explosion, but trust me—you do not want to inhale the fumes.
I’m David Reddish. Welcome to Occupy Democrats.
And yes, before we begin, I know you’ve noticed the big blue behemoth behind me. Our studio set is still a work in progress, and that oversized blue package plays a major role in a huge announcement we’ll be revealing in the next week or two. It’s big. It’s exciting. And if you want to be the first to see it, hit subscribe now so you don’t miss the reveal.
Now—let’s get into today’s story.
For months, accidental House Speaker Mike “Has-No” Johnson has been absorbing unexpected friendly fire from his own side of the aisle. When Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene announced her retirement last month, she made sure to take one last flamethrower to Johnson on her way out the door.
Practically bragging, she admitted:
“I yelled at Mike Johnson last week on our GOP conference call… and I hope Mike Johnson is finally giving us a single health care policy, because the country deserves it. I shouldn’t have to go into a SCIF to find our Republican health insurance plan. There is no plan. There’s a lot of ideas… but no consensus. And that’s a failure.”
When even Marjorie Taylor Greene—queen of chaos—calls your leadership a failure, you know the situation has rotted beyond recognition.

But Greene isn’t the only one Johnson is reanimating. Representative Elise Stefanik—who now has her eyes on the New York governor’s mansion—is openly criticizing Johnson, particularly his dismissive treatment of women. And she may have a point, considering Johnson’s own head-scratching remarks like this:
“Men’s brains are like waffles… women’s brains are like spaghetti.”
Oh dear. Someone tell “Micro” Johnson that he is not helping his reputation—professionally or… otherwise. And no, the chime on his phone that sounds suspiciously like a certain dating app is not “video poker,” no matter how many times he claims it is.
But I digress.
The bigger problem for Johnson is simple: alienating your own caucus to the point that they resign and publicly vow to destroy your speakership is not the hallmark of strong leadership. And now, the consequences are landing on his doorstep.
According to a new analysis from Hayes Brown at MSNBC, an insurrection is bubbling inside the GOP ranks. He notes this rebellion has been brewing for some time—and Johnson’s escalating clashes with Greene and Stefanik have only thrown gasoline onto the bonfire.
Stefanik even said last week that she doubts Johnson could win a speaker vote today if one were held. Not exactly confidence-inspiring.
Things get worse: A slew of high-profile Republicans are preparing to abandon Congress to run for governorships or angle for a potential Trump administration position. Johnson’s majority was already razor thin; when Greene departs in January, it will shrink to just one vote. One.
Johnson’s tone-deaf comments about women, his mishandling of the Epstein files, and his spectacular failure to produce a Republican health care plan have left him twisting in the wind. Even if Republicans somehow hang onto the House next year, Johnson’s chances of surviving as speaker are evaporating.
In fact, it’s widely believed there would already have been a vote to vacate Johnson’s speakership—if only Republicans had anyone else ready to take the job. They don’t. So they’re stuck. For now.
Which brings us to the comical metaphorical summary:
Johnson’s house is burning to the ground, and instead of grabbing a fire extinguisher, he’s taking a nap in the closet.
(Use your imagination.)
And the dark irony? So many of Johnson’s failures—on health care, on the government shutdown, on the Epstein files—stem from his constant need to defer, defer, and defer again to Donald Trump. Yet his loudest critics—Greene, Stefanik, Chip Roy—are all diehard MAGA loyalists themselves. They want Trump’s approval every bit as desperately as Johnson does.
So yes: Trump is absolutely responsible for this circus. But Johnson lit plenty of his own matches too.
Which raises the big question:
Once Trump finishes using Johnson as a disposable political shield and tosses him aside, when will these same furious Republicans finally turn their fire on Trump himself?
Some of them—like Greene—already have.
Stay tuned.
The fire is rising.
And on this channel, we have no problem watching it burn.
Burn, baby, burn.
This is Occupy Democrats.
