To celebrate the birthday of Lord Krishna, a.k.a Krishna Janmashtami, a special Dahi Handi event is arranged in various parts of India each year, most famously in Maharashtra. Bollywood actress, Janhvi Kapoor was seen attending one of these events hosted in Ghatkopar, Mumbai to promote her upcoming movie, Param Sundari. She wore a beige-toned lehenga skirt and paired it with a blouse in the same hue, decorated with golden embellishments. However, what has gone viral is not just her appearance, but the moment when Janhvi broke the matki.

In the video, while smashing the dahi handi with a stone, Janhvi loudly chants the patriotic saying, ‘Bharat Mata ki jai‘. To note, India’s Independence Day was celebrated just a day earlier than Janmashtami. Hence, netizens have trolled the actress for supposedly getting confused between the two occasions.

Janhvi Kapoor reacts to the trolling and defends herself 

After incessant trolling, Janhvi Kapoor took to her Instagram handle and shared the full video ‘for context’ on her Story. The actress said that she said ‘Bharat Mata ki jai’ after BJP MLA, Ram Kadam had chanted the line. Janvhi strongly reiterated that not only on Janmashtami, but she would express her patriotic sentiments every day. The actress also mentioned that the viral video had been purposefully cut in a way to make it a ‘meme material’. On her Instagram Story, Janhvi penned down:

“Unke (MLA, Ram Kadam) bolne ke baad nahi bolti toh problem, aur bolo toh bhi video ko kaat ke meme material. Waise sirf Janmashtami nahi, roz bolungi Bharat Mata ki jai.”
