When it rains, it pours.

Days after the San Francisco 49ers placed tight end George Kittle on injured reserve with a hamstring issue, they have lost Brock Purdy to turf toe.

The $265 million NFL quarterback is set to miss anywhere between two and five weeks, after sustaining the injury in the second quarter of Sunday’s season-opener.

Despite dealing with both turf toe and a left shoulder issue, Purdy led the game-winning touchdown drive late against the Seattle Seahawks.

Now, though, he could be sidelined for multiple weeks — and Niners fans are already pleading for rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders to come and save their season.

“Trade for Shedeur IMMEDIATELY,” one person wrote on X, responding to news of Purdy’s injury.

“Go get Shedeur Sanders,” another replied.

“Shedeurrrrrr!” a third wrote, urging the Niners to bring in the Cleveland Browns rookie.

“Literally just get Shedeur bro,” a fourth demanded.

Niners hope to bring in another quarterback

Coach Kyle Shanahan noted on Wednesday, before confirmation of Purdy’s extended absence, that he would like to add another signal-caller to provide depth behind Mac Jones.

San Francisco have Adrian Martinez on their practice squad, and tried out former Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills back-up Mike White on Wednesday.

“We’d like to (add another quarterback),” Shanahan said.

“We just don’t know if we can.”

Should the Niners look to Sanders, it would offer the high-profile rookie a much-needed NFL lifeline.

As Cleveland prepare for a tough Week 2 showdown against the Baltimore Ravens, radio host Tony Rizzo shared a worrying update on Sanders’ situation with the Browns.

“I’m hearing Shedeur is not even running scout team,” Rizzo revealed on ESPN Cleveland.

“He’s literally watching everyone. Bailey Zappe is running scout team, that’s what I’m hearing.”

Sanders had been locked in a quarterback battle with Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel for much of the preseason, before it was confirmed he would start the year as the third string.

The suggestion he’s not even running scout, and Zappe is, will raise further questions about his future.

“Why is he on the team? Why is he even here, if that’s what you think about him? Because his jersey is selling?” Rizzo continued of Sanders, referencing the fact that the rookie has the fifth-highest selling jersey of 2025 so far.

“The Haslams don’t need jersey money, do they? Why is he on the team if he’s not even running scout?”

If Sanders really has found himself on the sidelines as Rizzo suggests, then he will soon be looking for a way out of Cleveland — and the Niners could well be the answer to his prayers.
