Caitlin Clark and Napheesa Collier have been crowned as WNBA All-Star team captains, sparking online buzz about whether Clark would team up with Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese once more. Despite a budding “rivalry” narrative between the two sophomores in the league, Reese’s opportunity to join forces with her fellow 2024 WNBA Draft alumna was never in question.

Angel Reese Is Excited to Play with Caitlin Clark in WNBA All-Star Game

During the Team WNBA’s stunning 117-109 victory over the U.S. Olympic squad before the 2024 Paris Games, Clark and Reese showcased their chemistry on the court. Although Clark had a tough shooting day, netting only four points and missing all her attempts from beyond the arc, she still dominated with a game-leading 10 assists.

Reese, contributing from the bench, notched an impressive double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds in just 20 minutes, marking a rookie record in the matchup.

Arike Ogunbowale stole the show for Team WNBA with a whopping 34 points, yet it was the dynamic duo of Clark and Reese that captured fan attention. Prior to the game, Clark had confidently predicted Reese would top the rebound charts, a prophecy fulfilled as Reese edged out Team USA’s Breanna Stewart by one board.

Postgame, Reese couldn’t hide her excitement: “It’s so cool,” she exclaimed. “When [Clark] gets the ball, I’m running looking for it because I know she’s gonna throw it. She’s been great to play with. Hopefully in four years, we’ll be Olympians together.”

The pair were notably absent from the Team USA rosters due to the NCAA tournament coinciding with the Olympic training camp.

The unveiling of the All-Star captain took into account a weighted vote—half from fans, a quarter from media pundits, and a final slice from the players. Joining Clark on the starting lineup is her Indiana Fever compatriot Aliyah Boston, as well as other luminaries like early Rookie of the Year leading candidate Paige Bueckers, Allisha Gray, Sabrina Ionescu, Nneka Ogwumike, Satou Sabally, Stewart, and A’ja Wilson.

The 12 benchwarmers who’ll grace the AT&T WNBA All-Star 2025 will be announced later this month, with potential additions such as another Clark teammate, Kelsey Mitchell, Skylar Diggins-Smith, Jackie Young, Alyssa Thomas, Kelsey Plum, and Reese anticipated to round out the talent pool.

The showdown is set to take place at Indianapolis’s Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the Fever’s stamping ground, come Saturday, July 19.

Following her coronation as captain, Clark conceded that she’s not entirely savvy with the nitty-gritty of game-selection mechanics, but she spilled that roping in as many Fever familiars to her side is top of the wishlist. She’s eyeing to marshal both Boston in the starting cadre and hopeful reserve Mitchell onto her squad.

“Obviously, I’m going to try to get my teammates on my team. Why wouldn’t I?” posed an assertive Clark, adding, “That’s the goal, and once they come out with whoever has made it, I don’t really know how it works, but my first goal would be to have my teammates on my team.”

Regardless of whether Clark chooses Reese for her All-Star team, both athletes are formidable candidates to play for Team USA in the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.

Clark remains a contender for the WNBA MVP award, while Reese leads the WNBA in rebounds (11.9) and is only the fifth rookie to average a double-double in the league’s history.
