Baker Mayfield and Sam Darnold were both quarterbacks that were taken in the 2018 NFL Draft with Mayfield going No. 1 overall to the Browns and Darnold taken No. 3 overall by the New York Jets.
Both have since moved to different teams with Baker finding a home in Tampa Bay and Darnold finding a home in Seattle but at one point, they were both teammates in Carolina and while Mayfield says they both have a close relationship, they don’t reminisce about their time as teammates together.
Ahead of Sunday’s matchup between the Seahawks and Buccaneers, Mayfield was asked about his time with Darnold in Carolina and Mayfield shaded the Panthers while crediting his former teammate:
Back in 2022, the Panthers acquired Baker Mayfield from the Cleveland Browns and eventually Mayfield requested his release after being demoted to third string. A year earlier, the Panthers acquired Sam Darnold from the New York Jets. Both quarterbacks didn’t last in Carolina and ended up in better situations.
