Caitlin Clark is leading the WNBA All-Star vote and is joined by rookies Paige Bueckers and Kiki Iriafen, while longtime rival Angel Reese was a glaring omission following a tough start to the 2025 campaign.
Clark, 23, has been pivotal to the Indiana Fever’s resurgence this season after an injury saw the franchise spiral into a three-game losing streak without its superstar guard. The former Iowa player and NCAA All-Time Points Scorer immediately impacted in her return against an unbeaten New York Liberty and the Connecticut Sun before losing to the WNBA’s newest franchise, the Golden State Valkyries.
Clark hasn’t been shy about showing her feisty side, either. Two of the WNBA’s most significant confrontations this season have come between Clark and longtime rival Reese during an earlier clash between the Fever and the Chicago Sky. The guard also had a run-in with another rival from her collegiate days, Jacy Sheldon, which later resulted in Fever star Sophie Cunningham exacting revenge on Clark’s behalf with a physical confrontation.
Rookies Bueckers and Iriafen have been recognized for impacting the Dallas Wings and the Washington Mystics. Bueckers is averaging 17.7 points per game in her debut WNBA campaign, while former USC star Iriafen is recording 13.3 for the Mystics.
As for Reese, a one-time All-Star from last season in her rookie season alongside Clark, who appears set to earn a second honor, she has struggled in 2025, as have the Sky. The 23-year-old, notorious for her rebounding supremacy, averages 11 points, but the Sky are 3-8.
Reese has also received warnings that she’s taken her eye off the ball this season after a blistering start to her WNBA career. The Sky forward is 13th in the WNBA All-Star vote, and rival Clark has three times as many votes.
Reese is hoping to get her season back on track and the Sky’s. She will be important if the franchise is to turn its fortunes around in 2025. Reese recorded a triple-double in the win over the Sun, becoming the WNBA’s second-youngest to achieve the feat.
“(I’m) trying to get back to being super versatile,” Reese said, per the Athletic. “And (new head coach Tyler Marsh) made that emphasis early on in the season.
“And I didn’t understand it, and I really was kind of confused and trying to figure it out. I’m still figuring it out but I have patience. I’m just super excited, and then to add it with a win just feels really good.”
Chicago’s general manager, Jeff Pagliocca, addressed Reese’s need for improvement. “She’s had some great games, and she’s had some games like everybody else that haven’t been her best.
“But she’s our best chance at versatility on this roster. We need more production out of her, but we need her to help us in other ways, too. She’s been putting the time in. She’s been a great teammate. She knows we need to use her in a variety of ways.
“We’re still trying to pinpoint the most advantageous part of that. That’s something that has yet to come together, but it’s a necessity for us to win.”
