An NFL team has dismissed a member of staff following his sharing of an insensitive post in the wake of Charlie Kirk’s killing.

While the league has been slammed for its reaction to Kirk’s death, several players have made statements referencing the tragedy, with Harrison Butker among the most prominent.

The Kansas City Chiefs kicker posted a deep, spiritual message after Kirk was killed in Utah on Wednesday, also disclosing the last set of text messages he received from the conservative.

Most of the reactions stemming from Kirk’s death have been positive and uplifting, but some of them were quite inappropriate, including one from Carolina Panthers PR staffer Charlie Rock.

According to The Athletic, Rock has been terminated by the team, having joined as a PR intern last year before being promoted to football communications coordinator.

He was fired after posting a video to his personal Instagram page showing Kirk speaking, captioned: “Why are yall sad? Your man said it was worth it …,” adding a screenshot of the Wu-Tang Clan hit, ‘Protect Ya Neck’.

Kirk was shot in the neck while at a speaking event at Utah Valley University.

The Athletic reports that Rock is no longer with the organization.

The Panthers also shared a tweet in which they insist that, “The views expressed by our employees are their own and do not represent those of the Carolina Panthers. We do not condone violence of any kind. We are taking this matter very seriously and have accordingly addressed it with the individual.”

Rock did not respond to the publication’s request for comment.

Meanwhile, a suspect is in custody following the shooting, with authorities still investigating the incident, which has left America in mourning and uproar, given that Kirk was immensely popular despite his many controversial statements.
