Quick thinking from a Virginia player likely saved Florida State wide receiver Squirrel White’s life on Friday night.

The FSU pass catcher found himself in an unwanted position at the end of the Seminoles’ loss to the Cavaliers, with the home fans storming the field as soon as they realized they were out of reach.

White, whose actual first name is Marquarius, attempted a catch in the end zone that would have left his side with an opportunity to tie the game on a conversion. Unfortunately, the pass was underthrown and picked, leaving him with no time to pick himself up from the ground before the field storm kicked off.

The stampede, labeled the fastest and most insane of all time, saw White swept under wave after wave of fans.

Posts claiming he was killed began circulating on social media, but the player was later shown walking away from the scene.

His helmet and pads were credited with saving him from serious injury and/or death. However, it appears that some decisive action from an opposing player is what did the job.

The video below shows defensive back Donavon Platt jumping on top of Squirrel White and teammate Ja’Son Prevard, having anticipated the storm.


It appears Squirrel has an opposing DB to thank for walking out of the perilous field storm in one piece. Maybe Platt was just trying to congratulate his teammate and celebrate, but the move prevented disaster in any case.
