You should always be aware of cameras if you’re going to say racist things, and one West Virginia female fan is finding that out the hard way.
Last Saturday, fans were as rowdy as ever for the annual ‘Backyard Brawl’ game between West Virginia (WVU) and Pittsburgh (Pitt).
One African American man came dressed in a Panthers shirt and purposely antagonized the rival Mountaineer supporters in Morgantown. He got exactly what he was looking for: insane reactions.
At one point, a female WVU fan came up to his camera to talk trash back when the guy told her, “Fix your makeup.”
The young lady felt so disrespected that she decided to fire back with racism.
She fired back at the African-American man, telling him to: ‘Fix your skin color.
Female West Virginia Fan Breaks Her Silence
Kailey Sheldon has been identified as the West Virginia fan who was caught on camera telling a Black man to fix his skin color.
Once her name became available, she quickly limited comments on her Instagram due to trolls blasting her.
Amidst becoming public enemy number 1, she took to social media to speak out.
That woman has now issued an apology on Instagram as she asks her many detractors to leave her family alone.
‘I am going public so that this message reaches all audiences,’ she wrote on Instagram.
‘I wanted to start by holding myself accountable for the comment I made in Snarps’ YouTube video. I realize how incredibly hurtful, offensive, and unacceptable those words were, and it’s one of the most arrogant comments I have ever made.
‘Regardless of my intentions, it carried racist undertones, and I take full accountability for saying them,’ she continued. ‘Words matter, and mine caused harm, so for that, I am truly sorry.’
As we have seen lately, things said on social media or even in real life can get you fired or expelled from school.
The West Virginia fan also claimed ‘there was never any racist intent behind’ her words.
‘I totally see how my comment may be interpreted and the backlash I’m receiving for it is completely reasonable,’ she added before again insisting: ‘I am not a racist person.’
Kailey Sheldon plans on reflecting and learning so she can ‘grow from this.’
‘I just ask that my family and friends stay left alone as they shouldn’t be paying the consequences for my own actions,’ she concluded.
