He is said to have suffered serious injuries but remains in stable condition.

The NFL commentator was arrested at the hospital on charges of battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle and public intoxication, TMZ reports.

Police received a call around 12:30am on Saturday in downtown Indianapolis for two injured people.

At least one of them, now identified as Sanchez, was stabbed in the altercation.

He was then rushed to a local hospital for treatment.

WTHR reported that a person was detained after the violent altercation that saw one person stabbed and another with injuries “consistent with being in a physical altercation”.

The stabbing took place in an alley near Washington and Senate Avenue outside the Loughmiller’s Pub & Eatery.

The person who allegedly stabbed Sanchez claimed he was acting in self-defence and that Sanchez was the aggressor, FOX59/CBS4 reported, citing police sources.

Officers said that an argument broke out between two people, which led to the altercation.

The U.S. Sun reached out to the Indianapolis Metro Police for comment and was given the following statement:

“The incident involved two adult males, resulting in one man receiving lacerations and the other sustaining injuries consistent with stab wounds.

“Detectives believe this was an isolated incident between the two men and not a random act of violence.

“Both individuals, who are not local residents, have been identified.

“IMPD Aggravated Assault detectives are continuing the investigation and have reviewed video footage of the incident.

“Both men received medical treatment. The man with the apparent stab wounds remains hospitalized in stable condition.”

“The case will be presented to the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office for a charging decision,” it added.

“It is the practice of the IMPD Public Affairs Office to not identify victims or suspects in incidents, unless the suspect is arrested, charged, or being sought.”

Sanchez was in Indianapolis to cover the Colts vs. Raiders game at the Lucas Oil Stadium for FOX Sports on Sunday.

“We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support,” Fox Sports said in a statement, noting that he is stable.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time.”

The 38-year-old and his wife Perry Mattfeld welcomed twins earlier this year.

Sanchez played 10 seasons in the NFL, four of which were with the Jets.

He retired in July 2019 and has become an analyst and broadcaster working with ESPN and Fox Sports.
