Halftime entertainment sometimes happens on the stands, too. That’s what Texas fans online are talking about again after a clip from 2023 resurfaced and is going viral on social media now.
The moment happened during Jackson State’s 21-19 win over Texas Southern at Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Fans were already rowdy, the Ocean of Soul was playing, and then a tuba player suddenly gave the crowd a performance no one expected. The video resurfacing now has people revisiting the incident that actually happened two years ago, on the Opening day of CFB.
The clip shows a fan holding a canned drink, jawing at the tuba player from just a step below him in the aisle. The musician never missed a beat at first, dancing and playing. Then, without warning, he dropped the routine, fired off four quick punches, and returned to the music like nothing happened.
The fan fell and was out of sight. The tuba player kept it normal, and the band kept playing.
SWAC And Texas Southern Reacted Then

Neither the fan nor the band member has been identified. Jackson State declined to comment through its sports information director, Maurice Williams, but the Southwestern Athletic Conference and Texas Southern addressed the situation.
“The Southwestern Athletic Conference is aware of the incident involving a Texas Southern University band member that occurred during Saturday’s football contest against Jackson State University,” the league told the Clarion Ledger. “The Conference Office is currently working with TSU officials to gather additional information and details regarding the incident.”
Texas Southern vice president of communications Tracy Clemons also maintained that tone.
“Texas Southern University is aware of an incident involving a member of the Ocean of Soul marching band during a recent away game. The incident is under investigation. The University is implementing additional measures to ensure the safety of all band members during performances.”
Fans even now also reacted to this.
One fan said, “…and one time at band camp…”
Another one commented, “LMAO. I did NOT see that coming.”
Despite how widely the video spread, police never received a report about the punches. The Clarion Ledger confirmed that the Mississippi Capitol Police, the Jackson State University Police Department, and the Jackson Police Department had no record of it.
