She posted a statement on social media with the heartbreaking news.
Qerim was expected to still be on the program until the summer.
However, on Tuesday’s episode of the daily sports talk show, she was absent.
Stephen A. Smith was forced to take on her hosting duties.
He revealed he would be doing so for at least the rest of this week.
As as First Take came live on air, he addressed her not being in her regular role.
“Normally Molly Qerim would greet you,” he said in a 30 second message.
“However, Molly announced last night she will be departing from ESPN.
“She’s hosted First Take for ten years and elevated the show with her grace, her expertise, incomparable kindness.
“She’s been an enormous part of our success for a decade.

“Not only did she keep me and many others in line, she did it with dignity, and class, and kindness to say the least.
“We’ll miss her and wish her every blessing on her future.
“I personally am grateful to her for her friendship.
“I will miss spending every weekday morning with her right by my side.”
Qerim first joined ESPN in 2006, and has been on First Take since 2015.
She became a fan favorite with her ability to keep Smith, and other guests, in line.
The host also had extensive knowledge of the NFL and NBA, along with hard-hitting opinions.
ESPN had offered her a new long-term contract to stay, but she has decided to move on.
“Now that the news came out earlier than I intended, and not in the way I hoped,” she said on Instagram on Monday night.
“To my First Take family, after much reflection, I’ve decided it’s time to close this incredible chapter and step away from First Take.
“Hosting this show has been one of the greatest honours of my career.
“Every morning, I had the privilege of sharing the desk with some of the most brilliant, passionate and entertaining voices in sports – and with all of you, the best fans in the world.
“I’m so grateful for what this journey has given me: lifelong friendships, unforgettable memories, and the chance to be part of something truly special.
“From the bottom of my heart, thank you for welcoming me into your homes.
“Stay tuned. With love and gratitude, Molly.”
Fans reacted with shock at her missing from First Take.
“By Stephen A Smith’s tone, Molly Qerim is done with First Take effective immediately after she announced she’s leaving ESPN at the end of the year,” said one.
Another added: “Wow Molly Qerim left First Take!”
