Xavier Legette’s ability to track and catch the football is what helped him land a multi-million-dollar contract. But footballs aren’t the only thing he’s excelled at catching.

2025 WNBA Points of Education

After getting drafted 32nd overall by the Carolina Panthers in 2024, Xavier Legette signed a four-year rookie deal worth $12.357 million. Legette was coming off a tremendous final season at South Carolina, during which he caught 71 passes for 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns.

In his first NFL season, Legette caught 49 passes for 497 yards and four touchdowns. The Panthers also used their 2025 first-round pick on Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan, giving quarterback Bryce Young a dynamic young WR tandem to work with.

Outside of football, Xavier Legette loves to hunt animals and make a meal out of them. But there’s something unique about Legette’s hunting lifestyle, as he hunts creatures like raccoons, rabbits and squirrels.

An old video of Legette showing off a squirrel that he skinned has resurfaced. The second-year wideout, apparently, also planned to have it for dinner:

Legette revealed his love for eating rabbits, squirrels and raccoons in a 2024 appearance on “The St. Brown Podcast” last year (h/t People). So what you saw in the video above was not a one-time thing on Legette’s end.

Not much has gone right for the Panthers, who fell to 1-3 on the season after Sunday’s blowout loss to the New England Patriots. Renowned hands-on Panthers owner David Tepper looked visibly angry after the 42-13 loss at Gillette Stadium.

But they also didn’t have Legette (hamstring injury) in the last two games. Finally, they get their No. 2 receiver for Sunday’s must-win home contest against Tua Tagovailoa’s Miami Dolphins.

Legette had four receptions and eight receiving yards in his first two games before suffering the hamstring injury. McMillan has been Carolina’s only productive pass-catcher thus far (18 receptions for 278 yards), with Brycen Tremayne a distant second on the team with 99 yards.
