JuJu Smith-Schuster and the Kansas City Chiefs walked away winners on Sunday Night Football, but he somehow still earned an L after Brian Branch slowly walked up to him and smacked him in the face.
Branch, the Detroit Lions safety, could be seen walking past the Chiefs’ offensive line and straight to the Chiefs’ wideout, ignoring his handshake request, and pushing him in the face. That sent Smith-Schuster down to the ground. He jumped back up and went after Branch with a few others as the scuffle escalated.
It turns out that Branch may have had a reason why he suddenly attacked JuJu.
Brian Branch wanted payback after he felt the Kansas City Chiefs receiver hit him with an illegal block in the back that went uncalled.
The blow he sent to JuJu Smith-Schuster landed under the facemask and left Smith-Schuster bleeding from a gash on his nose.
Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell Speaks On Brian Branch Attacking Juju Smith-Schuster

Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch (32) practices during training camp at Meijer Performance Center in Allen Park on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
Detroit Lions safety Brian Branch was at the center of an ugly incident when he decided to get payback on Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster.
As time expired on the Chiefs’ 30-17 victory, Branch walked toward Chiefs wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and hit him in the head.
Things quickly escalated as both teams came together to break it up.
“We play the game in between the whistles,” Mahomes said on the NBC broadcast.
Lions head coach Dan Campbell called Branch’s actions “inexcusable” and apologized after the game.
“I love Brian Branch, but what he did is inexcusable,” Campbell told reporters after the game, per NFL.com.
“It’s not going to be accepted here. It’s not what we do, it’s not what we’re about. I apologize to Coach [Andy] Reid and the Chiefs and Smith-Schuster. That’s not okay, that’s not what we do here. It’s not going to be okay, he knows it, our team knows it.”
Now, Branch will have to wait to hear from the NFL on a possible fine and suspension.
