Sophie Cunningham delivered what many Indiana Fever fans have been pining for.

Fever's Sophie Cunningham appears to retaliate over Caitlin Clark cheap shots | Fox News

In the final minute of the Fever’s eventual 88-71 win over the Sun, Cunningham morphed into an enforcer for Fever star Caitlin Clark. As Connecticut guard Jacy Sheldon went driving to the basket with only Cunningham to beat, Cunningham delivered a hard foul on Sheldon that brought her to the floor.

Cunningham, Sheldon and Sun guard Lindsay Allen were each ejected for the sequence.

It was an obvious retaliation for a third-quarter dustup between the Fever and Sun that stemmed from Sheldon’s Flagrant 1 foul on Clark where she poked her in the eyes. Sheldon’s Flagrant 1 foul led to a skirmish where Sun guard Marina Mabrey shoved Clark to the floor.

In addition to Sheldon’s Flagrant 1 in the third quarter, Clark, Sun center Tina Charles and Mabrey were each assessed technical fouls.

Many fans were happy to see someone finally stand up and be an enforcer for Clark.

In her second game back since missing five contests with a left quadriceps injury, Clark scored a game-high 20 points and knocked down four 3-pointers in the Fever’s 88-71 win over the Sun. The 6-foot guard finished 6-of-12 shooting from the field and 4-of-6 from beyond the arc.

Clark added six assists, two steals and one rebound.

With the win, the Fever improved to 6-5 on the season and captured a spot in the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup Championship Game on July 1.
