Shae Cornette will be Qerim’s permanent replacement
Qerim left ESPN last month with Smith replacing her slot on an interim basis.

The broadcaster has now announced Shae Cornette will be the full-time host of the popular program.

That means Smith delivered his final Thursday show this week, and he bid farewell – making a big announcement in the process.

Smith said on First Take: “Just want to tell America right now, I thank y’all for joining me to host the show.

“I’ll be hosting the show again tomorrow after I co-host Good Morning America.

“I’m gonna be doing that too tomorrow, so I have a very, very busy day tomorrow.”

Smith, 58, is the latest star to make a guest appearance on Good Morning America.

Malika Andrews and Joe Buck have featured along with Michael Strahan and Robin Roberts, who are permanent guests.

Meanwhile Cornette will begin on First Take from November 3.

“I feel ready to step into this role and know I can add to the already successful brand that First Take is,” Cornette said in the announcement.

“From my days in radio to hosting ‘SportsCenter’ and now ‘First Take,’ my journey at ESPN has been one of growth, challenge, and opportunity.

“‘First Take”s energy, perspective, and passion represents everything I love about sports, and I’m excited to bring more of that to the debate desk every weekday morning.”

Cornette, Amina Smith, MJ Acosta-Ruiz, Courtney Cronin, Peter Schrager, and Joe Fortenbaugh had filled in during the month-long tryout period.

Smith has expressed his approval of the network’s full-time host decision.

“Hosting ‘First Take’ is no easy assignment. It requires confidence, toughness, and real sports insight — and Shae brings all of that and more,” Smith said in the announcement statement.

“I’ve seen her command the desk with poise and passion every time she’s hosted.

“She’s the real deal, and I’m thrilled to have her officially join the team.”
