Things turned ugly and heated after Saturday night’s CFL game between the BC Lions and the Montreal Alouettes at Percival Molson Memorial Stadium.
FastCast: Saturday’s best in < 10 minutes
The BC Lions and Montreal Alouettes gave Canadian fans a thrilling Saturday night treat: a back-and-forth affair that came down to the game’s final play. But when the dust settled, it was the visitors who escaped with a 21-20 victory thanks to a last-second field goal by Sean Whyte.
Moments after the game ended, cameras caught Montreal’s Adeyemi-Berglund and BC’s Kemoko Turay getting into a heated confrontation, turning the sidelines into a WWE-style Royal Rumble:
Per the Canadian Press, Adeyemi-Berglund accused the Lions of starting the brawl with punches and profanity.
“I don’t know really why. I wanted to give some passes to my family because they’re here visiting. And so (the Lions) are already in our locker room screaming profanity and throwing punches at coaches and players. What else can you do? This is where we’re at. This is our locker room. Someone is entering our locker room. It’s not going to fly…You’ve just got to protect our locker room.”
BC was bailed out by a 15-yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Pier-Olivier Lestage, committed after teammate Jose Maltos put Montreal ahead 20-18 with 28 seconds remaining. The Lions made good use of the extra field position to squeak out the potential season-saving victory.
The BC Lions and Montreal Alouettes will meet again in just a few weeks, this time at BC Place on Aug. 16. We’ll see if the love lost carries over to that game.

A loss would have dropped the Lions to 1-4 and four points behind the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for the final playoff spot in the West Division. But Nathan Rourke’s return sparked a dazzling Lions comeback win, moving them to 2-3 and now just two points behind Winnipeg and the Calgary Stampeders for the second and third spots in the division.
