What's Standing in Vikings QB J.J. McCarthy's Way as He Nears NFL Debut | Fox News

JJ McCarthy has had a whirlwind season from Week 1 to Week 2. Now things have gotten even crazier for Week 3.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that McCarthy is expected to be sidelined for two to four weeks with a high ankle sprain.

In his place will be Super Bowl-winning quarterback Carson Wentz.

This is tough news for a young quarterback who came into the 2025 season with hopes of showing what he could do on the field.

The Vikings were once rumored to be a contender for nabbing Aaron Rodgers, but they shut the door on that, with them putting their hopes into JJ McCarthy.

Now, the team has to put their 2025 hopes and dreams into a veteran quarterback who is long past his great days on the field.

The Atlanta Falcons beat the Minnesota Vikings 22-6 in Week 2’s edition of “Sunday Night Football.”

McCarthy shook off the rust in the fourth quarter of his Week 1 win, but he would have no such luck in Week 2.

McCarthy finished 11-of-21 for 158 yards and two interceptions as the Vikings mustered 198 total yards of offense. It was a struggle all game long as the team faild to score a single touchdown.

Aside from his dynamic fourth quarter against the Bears, McCarthy is just 18 for 35 for 214 passing yards to go long with zero touchdowns and three interceptions. He also has one fumble lost.

We’re only two games into a 17-game season, but with his recent injury, it is not looking good for him to get that much-needed game action to see what he could fix in the future.

Growing pains were inevitable, but injuries make it so much worse.
