WASHINGTON COMMANDERS star Deatrich Wise broke down in tears as he was carted off the field.

Defensive End Wise, 31, was inconsolable as he left the field during the Commanders’ 27-18 loss to the Green Bay Packers in Week 2.

He was carted off Lambeau Field in the second quarter with what appeared to be a lower leg injury, with ESPN’s John Keim later reporting it was a left quadriceps issue.

It came after a Packers player fell on the 2018 Super Bowl winner’s leg, with NFL analyst Sam Monson noting on social media he was “bawling his eyes out”.

Wise, who was signed on free agency in March with a $3.25million contract, managed to raise his right hand as the crowd applauded him off the field.

The Washington outfit, now 1-1 after an opening week win over the New York Giants, was already low on depth going into the season, with Wise starting both games played this season.

He was replaced by second-year end Javontae Jean-Baptiste – the 222nd overall pick of the 2024 NFL draft.

But as well as Wise, the Packers game dealt three more bitter blows to Dan Quinn’s team.

Running back Austin Ekeler was lost to a suspected Achilles tear, while tight end John Bates and receiver Noah Brown were also afflicted by injury issues.

Speaking after the defeat, Quinn was asked for an update on his injured players.

He told reporters: “We’ll use the weekend to see where we’re at from the injuries.

“I don’t want to make a guess.”

Wide receiver Deebo Samuel admitted the injuries did hit the Commanders hard on the field.

He said: “It kind of takes the fight out of you a little bit.

“All the work that they put in all summer long, and just to see them go down, it kind of hurt.

“That’s the nature of this game.

“We pray it’s not as bad as we think it is.”

Wide receiver Terry McLaurin added: “It’s tough.

“Two guys who are veterans for our team, and we lean on them a lot, not just for their play, but their leadership.

“To see both of them go down, especially Wise, you never want to see that. It just kind of puts in perspective the sport that we play.

“We’re just praying for him and Austin that they can make a speedy recovery.”
