Charley Hull’s Emotional Message After Heartbreaking Loss Grabs AttentionCharley Hull (Photo Via Instagram/@charley.hull)
Some Sundays just hit different. For Charley Hull, this past one stung like no other. She was having a great time at the AIG Women’s Open, riding momentum, fan energy, and pure play. But golf, as we all know, is unpredictable, and Hull felt that firsthand.

Hull stepped onto the final tee at Royal Porthcawl chasing a dream. She had maintained her way up the leaderboard with a scorching 66 on Saturday and stayed clean through the front nine on Sunday. The win was within reach. Then came the final stretch, and with it, the painful bogeys on 16 and 17. Just like that, the major slipped away.

The English star spoke openly after the round. No hiding her, just raw and pure emotions.

“Towards the end, I didn’t even hit a bad shot on 16,” Hull told GOLF.com. “I hit a perfect tee shot, and just the wind was howling off the left and didn’t even move it like an inch. Like, I hit it so pure. It was a bit unfortunate.”

On 17, she rolled a putt right where she wanted. It just didn’t drop. And on 18, a brutal chip over a bunker sealed her fate. “I felt like I was very much in control of my game todayI don’t feel like I mishit any shots,” Hull said. “I hit it pretty pure all day.”

By Sunday evening, Miyu Yamashita was lifting the trophy. Hull, meanwhile, had to settle for another near-miss.

But the real moment came a day later.

Hull took to Instagram and poured her heart out. “There’s nothing like the adrenaline of being in the mix on a Sunday. It’s why I love this game,” she wrote. “It stings to come up short, but after day one I’m proud of myself for climbing the leaderboard like I did and being the bridesmaid again.”

She thanked the fans, praised the course, and gave credit where it was due. “You were unbelievable,” she wrote. “I had goosebumps out there yesterday with the cheers. I’m grateful for this journey and everyone who is part of it.”

Hull will tee it up next at the 2025 PIF London Championship from August 8–10. After Sunday’s heartbreak, don’t be surprised if she comes out swinging.
