LeBron James is entering his 23rd season in the NBA. His agent, Rich Paul, hinted that the Los Angeles Lakers star is eyeing his fifth championship.
Recently, however, speculation began swirling after reports suggested that the Golden State Warriors made several attempts to lure LeBron away from Los Angeles. The possibility of James joining forces with Stephen Curry immediately sparked debates across the basketball world, especially considering the fierce rivalry between the two icons in the past.
The potential move became a hot topic on the Night Cap podcast, where former NBA star Joe Johnson was asked about the possibility. When comparing LeBron’s chances of winning alongside Stephen Curry versus Luka Doncic, Johnson leaned strongly toward the four-time champion from Golden State.
“If I had to choose, I’m going Steph. Not only because he’s proven, but he’s gonna command so much attention that LeBron will really get to play a natural position, which is like more of a facilitator,” Johnson said.
The hypothetical pairing also gained traction because fans had already seen glimpses of the duo’s chemistry during the Paris Olympics. In the Paris Olympics, LeBron and Curry delivered dazzling performances that carried Team USA to a gold medal.
“Yeah, he gonna probably still score about 22 to 25 points a night, but him facilitating? Oh my god! With his ability to pass the ball, with Steph’s ability to move without the ball?” Johnson added.

According to sources cited by Lakers Daily, the Lakers have made it clear that they have no plans to involve Jimmy Butler or Jonathan Kuminga in any potential trade scenario for LeBron James.
“The Los Angeles Lakers have no interest in Golden State Warriors forwards Jimmy Butler or Jonathan Kuminga in a potential LeBron James trade, sources told Lakers Daily,” the report read.
LeBron joined the Lakers in the summer of 2018. In 2020, he led the Lakers to their 17th title. The Lakers’ title inside the Orlando bubble cemented LeBron’s status as the bridge between the Lakers’ past dominance and their future aspirations.
