Shohei Ohtani has once again found himself at the center of controversy. This time, it was over a $240 million Hawaii real estate deal. Two former employees of Kingsbarn Realty Capital filed a lawsuit accusing the Los Angeles Dodgers superstar and his agent, Nez Balelo, of playing a role in their firings.
The lawsuit claimed that Ohtani and his agent influenced personnel decisions in the sale of the luxury “The Vista at Mauna Kea Resort” project. While some criticised the Dodgers’ two-way superstar, many came out in his defense, including MLB analyst Ben Verlander.
On his show “Flippin’ Bats with Ben Verlander”, he called the lawsuit “ridiculous” and claimed that Shohei Ohtani didn’t do anything wrong. Ben, who is the brother of Giants pitcher Justin Verlander, cited a statement released by Kingsbarn Realty in which the company confirmed that the firing of the two complainants had nothing to do with Ohtani or his agent and was solely the company’s decision.
“This is clearly a case of an employee being fired for just cause,” Verlander said.
Despite Kingsbarn’s backing, Verlander’s comments received backlash from fans on social media, with some accusing him of being biased.

Notably, this is not the first time Verlander has publicly defended Shohei Ohtani. There have been many instances where the MLB analyst has come out in support of the Dodgers’ star and sang high praises for him on social media. But this time, fans online felt he went too far.
Here are some reactions from X.
“This is getting really weird. You defend him more than your own brother,” one X user wrote.
“You’re getting kinda weird dude…,” another user reacted.
“And the second cover up begins LOL,” one fan commented.
“Yeah this was an expected post,” another fan posted.
“I’ve never seen a man do so many tricks on it like you do with Shohei Ohtani,” one X user replied.
“Isn’t it amazing how it’s always someone else’s fault with this guy?” another user commented.
“You have problems,” one social media user posted.
“You’re obsessed with the guy holy shit,” another fan wrote.
For now, the $240 million Hawaii development will move forward, but the legal fight and the public debate over Shohei Ohtani’s role are far from over.
