Giants and Jets players got into a wild scrap during joint practice this week, drawing jokes from fans on social media.

The teams held joint scrimmages on Tuesday and Wednesday ahead of their preseason fixture at MetLife Stadium on Saturday. The first practice took place at the Jets’ facility in Florham Park, New Jersey, and they moved to the Giants’ Quest Diagnostics Training Center in East Rutherford, NJ, on Wednesday.

Jets cornerback Sauce Gardner did not make the second day because of soreness in his calf, foregoing a highly anticipated matchup with Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers, who also missed both days with a toe issue.

The sessions included competitive drills, with Giants quarterbacks, veteran Russell Wilson and rookie Jaxson Dart, getting their reps.

There were also a few heated moments, such as the abovementioned fight.

Fans would suggest that neither team lays any claim to New York after Dov Kleiman noted that “Things have gotten intense between the two New York teams.”

“Fighting to see who’s the worst NY team,” one said.

“You mean the two New Jersey teams? Neither one of them reside in the state of New York. Only the Buffalo Bills actually reside in the state of New York,” someone else pointed out.

“The two New Jersey teams going at it!” another chimed in.

“This is the best fight they’ll give all year boys n girls,” one user claimed.

It’s true that the Bills are the only team actually based in New York State. The Giants and Jets both play in East Rutherford, New Jersey, but have kept New York in the name, not least due to branding advantages.

If we’re speaking state lines, the Bills are the true NY team. However, the Giants boast the bigger NYC legacy.

The Jets are somewhere in the middle…
