The internet often gives you a story that’s hard to believe. Former NASCAR driver Danica Patrick did a double-take this week when Kim Kardashian’s SKIMS released a new product, the “Faux Hair Micro String Thong.” Yes, really.
The $32 thong, marketed as “The Ultimate Bush,” lets customers choose their “carpet color,” according to SKIMS’ cheeky launch announcement.
Kardashian’s brand, which has been praised for redefining shapewear and even partnered with the NBA and WNBA. “There is no better time to be joining the league as a partner, and we are excited to work with SKIMS,” said WNBA commissioner Cathy Englebert in 2023. Even NBA commissioner Adam Silver also gave his opinion around that time.
The 42-year-old racing star couldn’t help but chime in after spotting a video from comedian Jessi Cruickshank poking fun at the new release. Patrick reshared the clip on her Instagram story and added her opinion: “Just when I thought the world was healing.”

Patrick’s comment reflected what many people were thinking. Social media quickly filled with reactions, calling the SKIMS campaign “bizarre” and “unnecessary.” Known for speaking her mind, Patrick didn’t stay quiet. She has been sharing her opinions on everything from sports to lifestyle trends, as well as some recent political topics.
Her reaction fits her no-nonsense reputation. Patrick built her career in a male-dominated sport by saying what she thinks and not worrying about backlash. So when Kardashian’s brand crossed into eyebrow-raising territory, it was only a matter of time before she spoke up.
SKIMS, founded in 2019, has become a billion-dollar brand that thrives on bold campaigns and viral moments. TIME even listed it among the “100 Most Influential Companies.” But this time, the hype may not be the kind Kardashian hoped for.
Whether the “Faux Hair Micro String Thong” becomes a hit or a marketing fail, one thing is for sure that Danica Patrick isn’t impressed. Thousands of fans agree, showing Kardashian that not every bold idea works.
