The NBA has made it clear that gambling violations won’t be tolerated. Denver Nuggets forward Michael Porter Jr. knows that reality better than most, as his own brother, Jontay Porter, fell prey to it.

Speaking on the One Night Steiny podcast, Porter Jr. shared a provocative theory about how some players might try to take advantage of sports betting. He said that if a player wanted to help friends financially, they could intentionally underperform in a game.

“Think about it. If you can get all your homies rich by telling yo bet 10K on my under…in this one game imma act like I got an injury and they all get a lil bag… Some people come from nothing & they think like that,” Porter Jr. said.

Jontay already got a lifetime ban from the league. On the podcast, Porter Jr. didn’t shy away from bringing up his brother’s downfall. He also linked it to other recent controversies involving Malik Beasley and Terry Rozier.

“And obviously my brother went through his situation. Malik Beasley’s going through a situation right now. Terry Rozier was in some hot water. But the whole sports gambling entity, bro, it’s bad, and it’s only going to get worse, bro. Like, we really do get death threats,” he added.

Porter Jr. says he always tries to lend a hand to those in need. In a recent self-recorded video while walking down the street, Porter Jr. explained his approach to helping others in tough situations.

“If I got cash on me, I’m always going to try to help out a brother like that,” he said.

During the walk, the Nets star spotted an elderly man in distress, shirtless and seemingly struggling. Porter offered him $100. However, the gesture took an unexpected twist when the man suddenly shouted at Porter Jr. and threw the cash back at him.
