Archie Wilson is more than just a punter; he is a human being with feelings.

There have been rave reviews over the uber-talented Australian punter throughout Nebraska’s preseason camp. An 18-year-old from the outback, Wilson’s talent is only dwarfed by his personality.

He may be tough on the outside, but he still carries a lot of emotions on the inside.

Nebraska football’s Australian punter met with the media for the first time on Tuesday, and it got quite emotional for him.

Wilson, a native of Australia, is going through his first fall camp with the program. And while he appears to have the starting punter job pretty much wrapped up at this point, he’s still trying to adjust to being in America away from his family.

The emotional weight of his first time away from family showed Tuesday when he met with reporters in Lincoln.

“Yeah, I’ve got two little brothers and mom and dad,” Archie Wilson told reporters through tears on Tuesday.

“That’s the tough part about being here. I love them a lot and I miss them. But I mean they know this is what’s best for me and it’s good, I can still talk to them plenty over the phone.”

At one point, he even dropped his head as the emotions took over.

Wilson turns 19 today.

The Australian teenager, who lives in the United States to pursue his ambitions of being a punter in American football, is preparing for the college season with the University of Nebraska.

Wilson joined in June, coming through the Prokick Australia program that has produced many NFL punters.

The punter from down under can kick with either foot.

He’s never played a snap of American football, but Wilson will debut for the Huskers later this month at Arrowhead Stadium.
