ESPN’s Adam Schefter used his status as an NFL insider to draft his fantasy football team.
Adam Schefter and nine ESPN colleagues completed their 2025 NFL Fantasy Football Marathon mock draft on Tuesday night. And when it came to making his fourth pick, Schefter made good use of his insider information.
On Wednesday morning, news broke that the Buffalo Bills and star running back James Cook agreed to a four-year contract extension worth $48 million. The 25-year-old had one season remaining on his rookie deal.
Before Cook ended his hold-in on Tuesday, countless fantasy football players were understandably hesitant about taking the Bills’ Pro Bowler. Obviously, you don’t want to risk drafting a guy who might hold out and miss meaningful playing time.
Aware of Cook’s plans to end the hold-in and sign a lucrative extension, Adam Schefter had some fun showing off his insider intel to the colleagues before drafting the Buffalo running back:
What can we say? The perks of being a prominent NFL insider.
Schefter broke the news of James Cook’s extension at 7:30 a.m. EST on X/Twitter. He rushed for 1,009 yards and 16 touchdowns last season, with the latter tying Jahmyr Gibbs and Derrick Henry for the league lead.

Schefter selected New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers and Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers (coming off a record-setting rookie TE season) with his first two selections.
After taking Los Angeles Chargers rookie RB Omarion Hampton in round three, Schefter stuck to the position and selected Cook in round four.
Adam Schefter’s team also includes quarterbacks Baker Mayfield, Brock Purdy, Tony Pollard, Tyjae Spears, Matthew Golden, Calvin Ridley, Tyler Warren and the Philadelphia Eagles’ defense.
