Former NBA Superstar Shawn Kemp had an impressive professional career playing for different teams. However, he faced multiple legal issues over the years after his retirement. The most recent one was a parking lot shooting case.

In April 2005, he was formally charged with drug possession and pleaded guilty. In July 2006, he was again arrested for misdemeanor marijuana possession. However, Kemp received a surprising outcome for the parking lot shooting case.

“Shawn Kemp has been sentenced to 30 days in jail in his parking lot shooting case — though the former NBA superstar will be allowed to serve the time at home…The judge admonished Kemp for his actions, saying, “I cannot state strongly enough this could have been easily avoided by simply walking away. Property is replaceable, human life is not.” He also sentenced Kemp to 12 months of community custody — which is a form of supervised release in Washington — in addition to the 30 days of home confinement.” Via TMZ Sports.

TMZ Sports revealed that Kemp must also serve 240 hours of community service.

In March 2023, Kemp was at a concert when the thieves broke into his car and stole several items, including his iPhone. Kemp quickly tracked his phone with Find My iPhone and found that it was in the Toyota 4Runner parked at the Tacoma shopping mall.

Kemp reached there, and after the confrontation, videos of the incident showed Kemp took the gun from his backpack, which followed the shooting incident. Initially, the court released him without any charges. However, after one month of the incident, the court charged Kemp with first-degree assault.

The Next month, Kemp pleaded not guilty to the first-degree assault charge. Kemp later pleaded guilty to second-degree assault. Then comes the outcome of the case, on August 22, 2025.
