The Miami Heat are working hard to move on from Terry Rozier as trade discussions intensify. According to reports, the organization is not prepared to commit to a long-term extension for the guard.

Meanwhile, questions linger regarding his off-court situation. Chris Haynes revealed last month that Rozier has not been cleared of any wrongdoing and remains under federal investigation in connection with a potential gambling probe.

Latest reports suggest that Miami is not setting a high bar in trade discussions. According to Ethan J. Skolnick, the Heat are open to moving Rozier’s expiring deal under almost any circumstances.

“So, according to sources for the Five on the Floor podcast (part of the Five Reasons Sports Network, the Heat have been actively shopping the expiring final year of Rozier’s contract (worth $24-26 million depending on incentives) for just about anything, but specifically frontcourt help,” the report read.

The Heat acquired Rozier in 2024 as part of a deal that sent veteran guard Kyle Lowry and a protected first-round pick the other way. In his first season with Miami, Rozier averaged 10.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 2.6 assists across 64 appearances. While serviceable, those numbers fell short of expectations, especially given the cost of acquisition.

A major factor in Miami’s urgency to trade Rozier is the salary cap. The franchise currently sits just $1.7 million below the luxury tax threshold and sees moving Rozier as a way to gain financial breathing room. Yet, their efforts have run into complications.

They have found no takers. Other teams saw Rozier’s dramatic decline as well: including a lot of overdribbling into bad shots,” Skolnick reported.

Rozier was owed $26.6 million in the final year of his contract. Hence, interest across the league remains virtually nonexistent. For now, the Heat are left searching for a solution as they weigh both financial concerns and the guard’s uncertain future.
