“Check To See If This Guy Is Illegally Sports Betting” - Yankees Fans Don’t Hold Back After Devin Williams Suffers Another Brutal LossDevin Williams (Image Credit: Imagn)
The Yankees’ nightmare late-inning problem struck again Friday night, and this time, fans weren’t holding back. After Devin Williams blew another easy game in extra innings against the Houston Astros, social media lit up with frustration, and some with bizarre theories.

It was a tense pitcher’s duel for most of the night. Cam Schlittler gave New York five solid innings, and the bullpen kept the game tied at 2-2 heading into extras. The Yankees even had momentum after Aaron Judge’s RBI single tied it in the sixth.

But in the 10th inning, the narrative changed. Devin Williams, brought in to keep things level, immediately fired a wild pitch to move the runner to third. Carlos Correa cashed in with an RBI single; moments later, Taylor Trammell launched a two-run homer. Just like that, a 3-2 deficit became 5-2, and it eventually ended 5-3.

Fans were once again left on the edge as they devised bizarre theories about Williams’ shocking performance.

“He needs to shave his beard… then his pitching powers will return!” one fan reacted.

“Check to see if this guy is illegally sports betting,” another fan commented.

“DFA HIM,” one Bronx fan wrote.

“Stink is a nice way of putting it. You fuckin blow dude,” another angry fan posted.

“This fool is trash,” one X user posted.

“He’s gotta shave the beard, such a kick in the fucking ass,” another X user commented.

“Pinstripes are too heavy for some people, and many have failed to live up to what it takes,” one fan reacted.

“DFA, then investigate for gambling,” another fan commented.

Aaron Boone Reveals Reason Behind Picking Devin Williams For The 10th inning

It has been a rough stretch for Williams, who is posting a 5.73 ERA and has allowed runs in five straight appearances. Manager Aaron Boone, who has been on thin ice lately, revealed that limited bullpen options were the reason behind picking Williams.

“We’re kind of short down there at that point,” Boone said after the game. “You get five innings out of the starter. You’re trying to get back in it and get through and staying away from (David) Bednar today. So, then you’re probably even lighter, staying away. Then you’re down to lefties, and then it’s that little right lane there for Devin. So, didn’t work out tonight.”

Devin Williams also didn’t walk away from taking accountability. The 30-year-old admitted that he “stinks” right now.

“I’m not making pitches. It’s pretty simple. I stink right now,” Williams said. “I’m not going to say [my confidence is] as high as it’s ever been… It’s come down to essentially one mistake and making me pay for it.”

The Yankees will continue the series against the Astros on Saturday. Williams must pick up the pace soon and help his team when they need him the most.
