Most longtime NBA fans are aware of the controversial chapter in former NBA star Karl Malone’s past. Reportedly, during his college days in 1983, he impregnated a 13-year-old girl. However, former NBA player Patrick Beverley admitted on his latest podcast episode that he was completely unaware of this troubling incident.

During the discussion, Beverley’s co-host, Adam Ferrone, brought up Malone’s off-court issues, questioning whether those aspects should influence how people view him. Beverley, who wants to return to the league, responded by saying he didn’t know much about Malone’s life beyond basketball.

No, I really don’t know a lot of off-court stuff about Karl,” Beverly said.

Ferrone then revealed the shocking detail that Malone had impregnated a 13-year-old. Beverley was taken aback and asked for a full timeout to process the news.

No. Full. I need a f***ing full timeout. You wait a second. I have a question. When you say he got a 13-year-old pregnant, was he 16?” he asked.

Ferrone then called Malone’s actions not just strange but seriously concerning. Beverley then sought clarification about the location of the incident, wondering if it happened in Utah. Yet Ferrone confirmed it took place in Louisiana, during Malone’s tenure at Louisiana Tech.

Following the podcast, Beverley shared his surprise on social media. NBA player Lou Williams posted a clip from the podcast with a supportive “yea buddy” comment, which Beverley later retweeted.

“I did not know this bro. I must live under a rock,” Beverley wrote.

It appears Beverley was also unaware that Malone’s son, Demetress Bell, went on to play professional football. Bell was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in 2008. He had a four-season NFL career, playing in 40 games before retiring.
