This offseason, the Golden State Warriors stand out as the lone NBA team yet to make a roster move. Their inactivity is because of Jonathan Kuminga’s contract situation. The front office appears to be prioritizing resolving talks with their rising star before committing to any major changes.

Kuminga’s talent and untapped potential have not gone unnoticed. Several teams are monitoring the situation, and the Chicago Bulls emerge as one of the most serious suitors.

According to Jake Fischer, the Bulls are targeting Kuminga as an unrestricted free agent next summer. However, their pursuit depends heavily on whether they can free up the necessary cap space.

“Depending on how the Bulls manage their roster in (the) coming months, they could have massive cap space to potentially mount a Kuminga pursuit come next June 30 if he plays things out all the way to unrestricted free agency,” reported Fischer

Currently, Kuminga is a restricted free agent, which gives Golden State the right to match any offer. Reports suggest the Warriors have already placed a two-year, $40 million contract on the table, but Kuminga has remained silent. He is seemingly holding out for a more lucrative, long-term deal.

Jake Fischer believes there’s a possible compromise that could end the standoff. Speaking in a Bleacher Report YouTube video, he detailed a contract structure that could appeal to Kuminga while keeping the Warriors comfortable.

“I think that Jonathan Kuminga’s side would take this one-plus-one situation with Golden State, this two-year, $45 million offer that’s been on the table if he were to get a player option in year two. But I was told yesterday from various sources that Golden State is going to be holding firm that the second year is going to be a team option, and that’s kind of where the staring contest is at,” Fischer said.

Kuminga showcased his value to Golden State last season, averaging 15.3 points and 4.6 rebounds in 47 appearances. His growing offensive skills have positioned him as one of the league’s most intriguing young forwards. Hence, his next move will remain to be seen.
