Vladimir Guerrero Jr. left midway through Monday’s game between the Blue Jays and Pirates due to a hamstring injury.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. suffered a hamstring injury during Monday’s matchup between the Toronto Blue Jays and Pittsburgh Pirates.

The injury took place during the middle of the game. Guerrero felt tightness in his left hamstring. This resulted in him leaving the game, as the team announced the injury as the reason for his departure.

“UPDATE: 1B Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was removed from tonight’s game with left hamstring tightness,” the team said.

Guerrero sees his night come to a close after going 0-for-2 in his at-bats with an RBI. He got an RBI groundout in the third inning off of Pirates ace Paul Skenes, which tied the contest at 1-1.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s injury didn’t help matters for the Blue Jays, falling 5-2 in their series opener against the Pirates.

Toronto tried to make plays on offense, possessing a 2-1 lead at one point. They were even with Pittsburgh at two runs apiece after six innings. However, the hosts scored the last three runs to take down their opponents.

The Blue Jays’ bullpen was unable to fend off the Pirates’ offense. They conceded six hits after 28 at-bats, with each hit proving to be crucial as the game went on. Kevin Gausman started on the mound as he lasted five innings, striking out four batters while conceding five hits and two runs. Yariel Rodriguez obtained the loss after giving up one hit and one run in 1.1 innings.

Toronto fell to a 73-53 record on the season but remain at the top spot of the AL East Division standings. They are 4.5 games above the Boston Red Sox and five games above the New York Yankees.

The Blue Jays will prepare for Game 2 of their series against the Pirates. The contest will take place on Aug. 19 at 6:40 p.m. ET.
