Green Bay Packers Have Reportedly Made Their Final Decision On Head Coach Matt LaFleur

The Packers know who they want as their head coach next season.

The Green Bay Packers have reportedly reached a decision on Matt LaFleur.

LaFleur’s job was thought to be in jeopardy following the Packers’ loss to the Chicago Bears on Saturday. However, Adam Schefter is reporting that the team is looking to work out a deal that would see him remain.

“Packers now are expected to try to work out a deal in the coming days to keep head coach Matt LaFleur in Green Bay, per sources,” Schefter reported on Monday morning.


LaFleur has one year remaining on his current deal with the team. His future was up in the air heading into the playoffs, and rumors of a potential firing began swirling before he could even shake hands with Ben Johnson.

Matt LaFleur Wanted To Remain With Green Bay

Packers president Ed Policy said last June that he would prefer it if the team did not have a lame-duck coach, which would be the case without an extension in 2026.

The head coach said he would speak to Policy soon when he engaged reporters on Sunday. However, he declined comment when asked whether he would be willing to coach with a year left on his contract.

Green Bay has made the playoffs in six of LaFleur’s seven seasons as head coach. The team has gone 76-40-1 during his tenure.

Still, they have not been to a conference championship since 2020. They have also never reached the Super Bowl with him at the helm.

LaFleur indicated he wanted to stay on as the Packers’ head coach on Sunday. That is despite being well aware that he would be among the top head coaching candidates if he were to leave.
