The Ole Miss Rebels’ dream season is over. They gave a valiant effort in the College Football Playoff after Lane Kiffin left them for LSU.

On Thursday night, the team had the chance to advance to the National Championship game. Unfortunately, the Miami Hurricanes had the ball with mere seconds to play. Miami trailed 27-24 with 3:13 remaining, but senior quarterback Carson Beck calmly navigated the Hurricanes down the field.

Beck scrambled for a 3-yard touchdown with 18 seconds to go to put the game on ice. Things could’ve ended differently if not for the behavior of one player on the defense.

Ole Miss Rebels defensive tackle Zxavian Harris is taking backlash from his own fan base and others over his behavior on the field.

Harris, who previously took a shot at Lane Kiffin, decided that the touchdown play was the best time to not give his all. The replay showed him falling to the ground right after the snap. He didn’t even bother to get on his feet as Beck took off running.

“Yeah, he was just trying to steal our shine,” Harris previously said, per ESPN.“That’s all he’s trying to do. That’s all he’s been trying to do is steal our shine.”

What’s Next For The Ole Miss Rebels?

For the first time since 2003, the Hurricanes will play for a national title. No. 10 Miami beat No. 6 Ole Miss 31-27 at the Fiesta Bowl. Miami will play the winner of Friday night’s Indiana-Oregon Peach Bowl for the national title.

Ole Miss might have lost Lane Kiffin, but like a scorned ex, the Rebels showed heart as they came within seconds of advancing to the title game. Even after a big-name coach has left, not many players have entered the transfer portal yet.

In fact, LSU freshman tackle Carius Curne committed to the Ole Miss Rebels after accusing the Tigers of blocking his transfer.

Despite the heartbreaking loss, the Rebels aren’t expected to take a major tumble with talent. The team could very well be in the CFP for years to come.
