Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Oklahoma City Thunder burst out of the gates this season with authority, but that momentum was checked by the San Antonio Spurs, who handed them a 3–0 sweep during that stretch. The Thunder are again going to battle the Spurs on Thursday.

Following Oklahoma City’s 124–112 victory over the Miami Heat on Sunday, a reporter asked Shai Gilgeous-Alexander about the rematch with the Spurs. The Thunder star avoided overhyped talk of revenge while acknowledging the importance of the upcoming game.
“I haven’t thought about it yet, but since we’re here, yeah, we gotta win, just like every other night,” Shai said.
“It’s obviously a very good team who’s gotten the better of us recently. Should be a fun one, should be competitive. We got to go out there and do the necessary things to win the game and if we don’t will most likely lose,” he added.
The Spurs famously snapped the Thunder’s 16-game winning streak and knocked them out of the NBA Cup race. Given those stakes, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander subtly suggested that the growing tension between the two teams could evolve into one of the league’s next must-watch rivalries.

During the post-game press conference, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander also addressed the status of teammate Jalen Williams, who has been battling through a lingering wrist injury.
“Obviously still affecting him, but it seems like he’s continuing to just play through it. Yeah, he has no choice. If we’re gonna win, we’re gonna need the best version. He knows that, we know that. And that’ll come around, he’ll get better as the season goes on. I didn’t expect him to average 40 off the gate. But yeah, he’s a great player. He’s gonna get back to his usual self-sustaining,” he said.
In the win over Miami, Williams finished with 18 points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals. While his numbers haven’t quite matched last season’s production yet, the Thunder remain optimistic that he will soon return to the form that made him such a key piece of their success.
