He Marked Her as Weak… But Her Wolf Rose to Claim the Alpha’s Throne

Zach had loved Amber since they were children running through the Packlands together. She was everything to him. Her laugh, her smile, the way her brown eyes sparkled when she teased him. He [music] was the future alpha of the silver moon pack. And everyone expected him to choose a strong Luna with a powerful wolf.

But Zach didn’t care about expectations. He only cared about Amber. When Amber turned 18, the whole pack gathered for her awakening ceremony. This was the moment when a wolf shifter’s inner wolf would surface for [music] the first time. Zach stood at the front of the crowd with his heart pounding with excitement. He couldn’t wait to see Amber shift and watch her wolf emerge so he could finally claim her as his mate.

But the hours passed. The moon rose high in the sky and nothing happened. Amber stood in the center of the sacred [music] circle with tears streaming down her face as the terrible truth became clear. Her wolf wasn’t coming. She was wolfless. A human born into a world of wolves. The whispers started immediately. She’s defective.

[music] The future alpha can’t mate with a wolfless girl. She’ll make our pack weak. Zach’s father, Alpha Marcus, pulled him aside. “You cannot claim her son, and Alfa needs a strong Luna. She has no wolf. She’s useless to this pack.” “I don’t care,” Zach growled with his wolf rising to the surface. “I love her. I will claim her.

” “You’re making a mistake. Then it’s my mistake to make.” The claiming ceremony was set for the next full moon. In their pack, any unmated male could compete for the right to claim an unmated female. Zach would have to [music] fight for Amber, but he didn’t mind. He was the strongest warrior in the pack. No one could defeat him, or so he thought.

3 days before the ceremony, Zach led a patrol along the northern border. Rogue wolves had been spotted in the area, and as future alpha, [music] it was his duty to protect his pack. They found the rogues near the old ravine, [music] 15 of them wildeyed and hungry for blood. Zach shifted instantly, and his massive black wolf tore through the enemy lines.

He was faster than lightning and stronger than steel. One by one, the rogues fell beneath his claws, but he didn’t see the trap. The ground beneath him gave way, and Zach plummeted into a pit lined with silver spikes. The poisonous metal pierced [music] his spine and a howl of agony ripped from his throat.

His wolf thrashed trying to escape, but the silver burned through his nervous system like [music] fire. When his pack members finally pulled him out, the damage was done. The silver had destroyed the nerves in his lower spine. His wolf could still run. In [music] shifted form, the wolf’s body healed enough to function.

But in human form, Zach could not feel his legs. [music] He could not walk. He could not stand. He was crippled. Zach lay in the pack hospital for weeks staring at the ceiling as doctors delivered one devastating verdict after another. The damage is permanent. You’ll never walk again. Perhaps with therapy, you might regain some movement, but he stopped listening after a while.

Amber came to visit him everyday. She held his hand and told him everything would be okay. She said she didn’t care if he couldn’t walk. She said she loved him no matter what. But Zach saw the pity in her eyes, and it destroyed him. He was supposed to be her protector. [music] He was supposed to be the one who kept her safe from a world that called her weak and worthless.

How could he protect anyone when he couldn’t even stand on his own two feet? The day before the claiming ceremony, Zach made the hardest decision of his life. I’m withdrawing from the competition, he told his father. Alpha Marcus [music] stared at him. What are you talking about? I can’t claim Amber. Look at me. Zach [music] gestured at his useless legs.

I’m not fit to be anyone’s mate, let alone hers. She deserves someone who can protect her. Finally, you’re seeing reason. I’ll announce that you’re withdrawing. And no. Zach’s voice [music] was cold. I don’t want her to know it was my choice. Tell everyone the pack council decided I’m no longer fit to compete. Tell them my injury disqualifies me.

You want her to think you were forced out? I want her to move on. If she thinks I chose to abandon her, she’ll hate me. If she hates me, she’ll let someone else claim her. Someone who can actually take care of her. Alpha Marcus nodded slowly. It’s a cruel kindness, but I [music] understand. I’ll make the announcement tonight. Amber came to see Zach one last time before the ceremony.

Her eyes were red from crying, and her voice shook with barely contained fury. “They can’t do this,” she said. “The council can’t just decide you’re not worthy. You’re still the strongest wolf in this pack. Your wolf can still run. You can still fight in shifted form. This isn’t fair. Zach kept his [music] face blank, hiding the agony in his heart. Maybe they’re right.

Maybe a shouldn’t be Alpha. Amber flinched like he’d slapped her. Don’t say that. Don’t you dare say that. It’s the [music] truth, Amber. I can’t protect you. I can’t protect anyone. You should let someone else claim you. Someone whole. Someone strong. I don’t want someone else. [music] I want you. Well, I don’t want you.

The lie burned his tongue, [music] but he forced the words out anyway. You’re wolfless. I’m crippled. Together, we’d be the weakest alpha pair in history. I won’t let that happen. Amber’s [music] face crumpled. You don’t mean that. I do. Now get out. [music] I don’t want to see you again. She ran from the room, sobbing, and Zach closed his eyes as tears leaked down his own cheeks. It was done.

She would hate him now. She would move on and find someone better. [music] It was the right thing to do. So why did it feel like his soul was being ripped apart? [music] The claiming ceremony took place under a blood red moon. Zach watched from his window as wolves gathered in the sacred clearing.

Seven males had entered the competition for Amber’s hand. [music] They would fight until only one remained, and that wolf would have the right to claim her as his mate. Zach recognized most of them. [music] Warriors from his pack, some strong, some merely ambitious. But one wolf caught his attention. A newcomer, a massive gray wolf with cruel yellow eyes, and a scar running across his muzzle. Drake.

He was a transferred wolf from the shadow pack, notorious for his brutality and his hunger for power. Rumors said he’d killed his own brother to become beta of his former pack. Now he was here circling Amber like she was prey. Zach’s wolf howled inside him, demanding to be released. Every instinct [music] screamed at him to shift, to charge into that clearing and tear Drake apart.

But what could he do? In human form, he couldn’t even stand. And if he shifted the moment he turned back, he’d be helpless again. So he watched. He watched as Drake [music] systematically destroyed every other competitor. He watched as the grey wolf stood victorious with blood dripping from his jaws. [music] He watched as Drake approached Amber with a predator’s grin.

Looks like you’re mine now, little wolfless [music] girl,” Drake said with his voice carrying across the clearing. “Don’t worry, I’ll teach you your place.” Amber stood frozen with her face pale with terror. Her eyes darted toward the [music] pack hospital, searching for Zach, but he pulled back from the window, hiding in the shadows.

He couldn’t save her. He couldn’t even save himself. The claiming bite was swift and [music] brutal. Drake sank his fangs into Amber’s neck, marking her as his mate. She screamed in pain, and Zach felt [music] every ounce of that scream echo through his broken body. What had he done? 5 years passed. Zach had left the silver moon pack the day after Amber’s claiming.

He couldn’t bear to watch Drake parade her around like a trophy. He couldn’t stand the way Drake looked at him with smug satisfaction, knowing he’d won what Zach [music] had given up. So Zach ran. His wolf carried him far from Packlands, deep into the wilderness where no shifter dared to travel. He lived as a rogue, surviving on instinct [music] and rage.

In wolf form, he was still powerful. He could hunt. He could fight. He could run for miles without stopping. But the moment he shifted [music] back, reality came crashing down. His human legs remained useless and he had to drag himself across the ground like an animal. Still, he trained. Every single day, Zach [music] pushed his body to its absolute limits.

He strengthened his arms until they could support his entire weight. He learned to move without his legs to fight from the ground to use his disability as a weapon [music] instead of a weakness. And slowly, impossibly, something began to change. The doctors had said the damage was permanent. [music] They said he would never walk again.

But wolves healed differently than humans. And Zach’s wolf had never stopped trying to repair the damage. Year after year, nerve by nerve, the connection between his spine and his legs began to rebuild itself. On the third anniversary of his self-imposed [music] exile, Zach felt a tingling sensation in his toes.

On the fourth anniversary, he could move his feet. On the fifth anniversary, he [music] stood on his own two legs for the first time in half a decade. He was still weak. He still needed a cane to walk, but he was no longer crippled, and he was finally ready to go home. The Silver Moon Pack had changed in Zach’s absence.

His father had died 2 years ago, and Drake had somehow convinced the pack council to name him Alpha. Now Drake ruled with an iron fist, crushing anyone who dared to challenge his authority. And Amber, sweet, beautiful Amber, had become a ghost of her former self. Zach barely recognized her when he first saw her at the market.

She was thin, too thin, with dark circles under her eyes and bruises peeking out from beneath her sleeves. She moved carefully, flinching at every loud noise, keeping her head down and her eyes on the ground. Drake had broken [music] her. Zach’s wolf roared with fury, but he forced himself to stay calm.

He couldn’t just charge in and challenged Drake. Not yet. He needed to understand what had happened. He needed to [music] know what he was dealing with. So, he watched. He listened. He gathered information from the pack members who still remembered him. the ones who whispered about the old days when the alpha’s son had been their [music] greatest warrior.

The picture they painted was horrifying. Drake was a monster. He beat Amber regularly, sometimes in private, [music] sometimes in public. He humiliated her in front of the pack, calling her worthless and weak. He starved her, locked her in the basement for days at a time, and threatened to kill her if she ever tried to leave.

But the worst part, the part that made Zach’s blood boil, was what Drake had done to their child. Amber had given birth to a daughter 3 years ago, a little girl named Sophia with her mother’s brown eyes and her father’s gay wolf. [snorts] Drake had wanted a son and heir to continue his bloodline. When Amber presented him with a daughter instead, he’d flown into a rage. He tried to kill the baby.

Amber had thrown herself in front of her daughter, taking the blow meant for Sophia. Drake had beaten her so badly that she’d spent two weeks in the hospital. When she finally recovered, she discovered that Drake had sent Sophia away, given her to a childless [music] couple in a distant pack, claiming the girl was defective like her mother.

Amber hadn’t seen her daughter in 3 years. Zach found Sophia first. She was living with a kind couple in the Blue Ridge Pack, [music] a six-year-old girl who didn’t understand why her real mother never came to visit. She had Amber’s smile and a fierce little wolf that was already showing signs of extraordinary power.

“Your mama loves you very much,” Zach told her as she played with her dolls. “She thinks about you every single day.” Sophia looked up at him with curious eyes. Then why doesn’t she come get me? Because a bad man won’t let her. But I’m going to fix that. Okay. I’m going to bring you home. Promise? Zach knelt down so he was eye level with the little girl.

I promise on my life. I’m going to make everything right. He returned to the Silver Moon Pack undercover of darkness. [music] The claiming laws were clear. If a mate was being abused, any pack member could challenge the abuser for custody. But Drake wasn’t just any wolf. He was the alpha now, and challenging him meant fighting for control of the entire pack.

Zach was ready. He walked into the pack gathering hall during Drake’s monthly address. The alpha was sitting on a throne, an actual throne, something no silver moon alpha had ever used before. while Amber knelt at his feet like a servant. “I challenge you,” Zach announced with his voice echoing through the hall.

“Drake of the Shadow Pack, I challenge you for the position of Alpha and for custody of the mate you’ve abused.” The crowd [music] gasped. Drake’s eyes widened in recognition, then narrowed with cruel amusement. “Well, well, the returns.” Drake rose from his throne, cracking his knuckles. I thought you were dead, Zach. Should have stayed that way.

I’ve been watching you, Drake. I’ve seen what you’ve done to Amber. What you did to your own daughter. You’re not fit to be Alpha. You’re not fit to be a wolf. You think you can beat me? You couldn’t even stand 5 years ago. What makes you [music] think anything has changed? Zach threw aside his cane and straightened to his full height.

He was taller than Drake, broader, and for the first time in 5 years, he [music] was standing on his own two feet. Everything has changed. The fight was brutal. Drake was strong, stronger than Zach remembered. The years of unchallenged rule had only increased his power, and he fought with the viciousness of a cornered [music] predator.

But Zach had spent 5 years preparing for this moment. 5 years training in the wilderness, pushing his body beyond its limits, learning to fight through pain that would have broken any other wolf. They clashed in a whirlwind of claws and fangs. Drake landed a devastating blow to Zach’s ribs, cracking bone. Zach retaliated with a slash across Drake’s throat that nearly ended the fight [music] right there.

Blood splattered across the gathering hall floor as the two wolves tore into each other. And then Zach felt it, the familiar weakness spreading through his legs. The nerves were still fragile, still healing, and the strain of the fight was too much. His right leg buckled and he crashed to the ground. Drake stood over him, panting and bloody, but victorious.

Same old Zach, still weak, still broken. I’m going to enjoy killing you. [laughter] No!” Amber’s scream cut through the air. She had risen from her knees with her eyes blazing with a fire Zach had never seen before. And then something impossible happened. Amber shifted. [music] After 23 years of being wolfless, after a lifetime of being called defective and worthless, Amber’s wolf finally emerged.

She was small compared to the males, a beautiful silver wolf with blazing gold eyes, but she moved with supernatural [music] speed. She slammed into Drake’s side, knocking him away from Zach. Her teeth found [music] his throat, and she bit down with all the fury of a mother protecting her mate and her [music] child.

Drake’s body went limp. When Amber shifted back, she was covered in blood and trembling with shock. Zach dragged himself to her side and pulled her into his arms. >> All this time you had a wolf. >> She was [music] waiting. She was waiting until I needed her most. Until I had something worth fighting for. >> The pack stood in stunned silence as the impossible scene unfolded before them.

Their Luna, the wolfless girl they’d mocked and pied, had just killed the alpha who’ terrorized them for years. [music] Zach rose to his feet with his legs shaky but holding. >> By pack law, the alpha’s mate has the right to claim leadership if she defeats him in combat. Amber is your alpha now. >> No, we are [music] their alphas.

>> She turned to face the pack with her voice growing stronger. >> Zach is the true heir to Silver Moon. He left to protect me and he came back to save me. He is my mate, my partner, and my alpha. She bit into her own wrist, then [music] pressed the wound to Zach’s lips. >> “Drink. Accept my claim.” >> Zach drank, feeling the mate bond snap [music] into place.

The bond that should have been theirs from the beginning. Power surged through his body [music] as the pack’s loyalty transferred to him. And when he opened his eyes, they were glowing alpha red. He was whole. The news of Drake’s death spread through the werewolf world like wildfire. The cruel alpha of Silver Moon had been killed by his own mate, the the wolfless girl everyone had mocked for years.

Some packs celebrated. [music] Others whispered with fear, but everyone wanted to know [music] the same thing. How had a wolfless woman suddenly developed a wolf [music] powerful enough to kill an alpha? Zach didn’t care about the rumors. He had more important things to worry about. The pack was in shambles after years of Drake’s tyranny.

The warriors were broken and afraid. The elders had been silenced. The young wolves had grown up believing that cruelty was strength and mercy was weakness. It would take years to undo the damage. But first, Zach had a promise to keep. “We’re going to get Sophia,” he told Amber on their first morning as the new alpha pair. today.

Amber’s eyes filled with tears. She won’t remember me. It’s been 3 years, Zach. She was only three when Drake took her away. She won’t know who I am. Then we’ll remind her. Zach took Amber’s hands in his own. She has your eyes and your smile. She has your kindness and your strength.

The moment she sees you, she’ll know exactly who you are. They traveled to the Blue Ridge Pack together with a small group of trusted warriors. The alpha of Blue Ridge was a fair man named Thomas who had taken Sophia in as a favor to Drake. [music] He’d never known the truth about why the little girl had been sent away. I had no idea, Thomas said [music] when Zach and Amber explained the situation.

Drake told me the child was an orphan. He said her parents had died in a rogue attack and he was finding her a good home. “He lied,” Amber [music] said quietly. “He tried to kill her because she wasn’t a boy. When I protected her, he beat me and sent her away. He told me she was dead.

” Thomas’s [music] face twisted with disgust. “That monster, if I had known.” He turned to one of his guards. “Bring the child. Her real mother has come to take her home.” Sophia walked into the room holding the hand of her foster mother, [music] a kind woman named Elellanena, who had clearly loved the little girl as her own.

The child had grown so much in 3 [music] years. She was tall for her age with long brown hair and wide, curious eyes. When she saw Amber, she stopped in her tracks. “Mama,” Sophia whispered. Amber dropped to her knees with tears streaming down [music] her face. Yes, baby. It’s me. It’s really me. Sophia broke free from Elena’s hand and ran across the room.

She threw herself into Amber’s arms, and the two of them held each other like they would never let go. The bad man said you didn’t want me anymore. Sophia sobbed. He said you gave me away because I wasn’t good enough. That was a lie, sweetheart. I never stopped wanting you. I never stopped loving you. Not for one single second.

Zach watched the reunion with his heart swelling [music] in his chest. This was what he had fought for. This was what all those years of pain and training had been building toward. A mother holding her daughter. A family made [clears throat] whole again. Elellanena approached Zach with tears in her own eyes.

I loved that little girl like she was my own, but I always knew something wasn’t right. She cried for her mama every night for the first year. She drew pictures of a woman with brown hair and sad eyes. She never forgot. “Thank you for taking care of her,” [music] Zach said. “You gave her a safe place when she needed one most.

” “Will you?” Elellanena hesitated. “Will you let me see her sometimes? I know she’s not mine, but I can’t just You’ll always be welcome in Silver Moon.” Zach promised. [music] Sophia is lucky to have so many people who love her. The journey back to Silver Moon was the happiest of Zach’s [music] life. Sophia sat between him and Amber in the car, chattering endlessly about her foster family and her favorite toys and the dreams she’d had about her real mama coming to rescue her.

“I always knew you’d come,” Sophia said seriously. [music] “My wolf told me.” Amber and Zach exchanged surprised looks. Your wolf talks to you?” Amber asked. “Uh-huh. She’s been talking to me since I was little.” She said, “Her name is Luna, and she’s very strong.” She said, “One day, I’m going to be the most powerful wolf in the whole world.

” Zach felt a chill run down his spine. Wolves didn’t usually communicate with their human halves until puberty, around 12 or 13 years old. For a six-year-old to have such a clear connection with her wolf was almost unheard of. Sophia [music] was special, very special, and that meant she would need protection.

When they arrived back at the pack house, [music] the entire Silver Moon pack had gathered to welcome their new Luna’s daughter [music] home. The wolves cheered as Sophia stepped out of the car, holding her mother’s hand. For the first time in years, there was joy in the Silver Moon territory. But not everyone was happy.

Zach noticed a group of wolves standing apart from the celebration. They were Drake’s [music] former supporters, the ones who had benefited from his cruel reign. Their leader was a man named Victor, [music] who had served as Drake’s beta. Victor had been away on pack business when Zach issued [music] his challenge, so he’d missed the fight entirely.

He’d returned to find his alpha dead [music] and his position stripped away. Now he stood in the shadows, watching Sophia with cold, calculating eyes. Zach made a mental note to keep an eye on him. The first few weeks of Zach [music] and Amber’s reign were chaotic, but hopeful. They worked tirelessly to repair the damage Drake had done.

They freed the wolves he had imprisoned for minor offenses. They returned the property he had stolen from weaker pack members. They opened the pack’s food stores to families who had been starving under Drake’s greedy rule. And slowly the pack began to heal. Sophia adjusted to her new life with remarkable ease. She followed Zach everywhere, calling him papa, even though he’d told her she didn’t have to.

She helped Amber in the garden and played with the other pack [music] children and charmed every single wolf she met with her bright smile and fearless personality. [music] “She’s amazing,” Amber said one night as they watched Sophia sleep. “After everything she’s been through, she’s still so full of love.” “She gets that [music] from you,” Zach said, wrapping his arms around his mate.

You never stopped loving her, even when you thought you’d never see her again. That kind of love leaves a mark on a child’s soul. Amber leaned into his embrace. I never stopped loving you either. Even when I hated you for pushing me away, I still loved you. My wolf knew the truth. Even when my heart didn’t. Your wolf is very wise.

She says the same thing about yours. They laughed together and for a moment everything [music] was perfect. But perfection never lasts. The attack came on the night of Sophia’s 7th [music] birthday. The pack had thrown a huge celebration with games and presents [music] and a cake shaped like a wolf.

Sophia had been so happy running around with her new friends squealing with delight every time she opened a gift. By the time the party ended, she was exhausted. Amber carried her to bed [music] and tucked her in while Zach stood guard at the door. “Best birthday ever,” Sophia mumbled sleepily. “I love you, mama. I love you, Papa.

” “We love you, too, sweetheart,” Amber whispered. “More than anything in the whole world.” They left Sophia’s room and headed to their own chambers. Zach’s legs were aching. They always did by the end of long days, and he was looking forward to a hot bath and a good night’s sleep. He never got either.

The explosion rocked the entire pack house. Zach was [music] thrown off his feet as the floor beneath him crumbled. He heard Amber scream [music] and then everything went dark. When he opened his eyes, he was lying in a pile of rubble with [music] dust and smoke filling his lungs. His wolf was howling inside him, demanding to be released.

[music] But Zach forced himself to stay human. He needed to think. He needed to find Amber. He needed to find Sophia. “Amber!” he roared. “Sophia!” A cough came from somewhere to his left. [music] Zach dragged himself toward the sound, ignoring the pain shooting through his battered body. He found Amber pinned beneath a wooden beam with blood trickling from a gash on her forehead.

I’m okay,” she gasped as Zach [music] lifted the beam off her. “Find Sophia! Please find Sophia!” Zach [music] ran, his legs screamed in protest, but he pushed through the pain, sprinting towards Sophia’s room on the other side of the pack house. The hallway was filled with smoke and flames. Wolves were shouting and crying all around him, but Zach only cared about one thing.

[music] He burst through Sophia’s door and his heart stopped. The room was empty. Sophia’s bed was torn apart [music] and her window was shattered. And standing in the middle of the destruction was a note written in [music] blood on the wall. The wolfless girl’s daughter belongs to us now. Come and get her if you dare.

The Shadow Pack. Victor. It had to be Victor. Drake’s former beta had fled to the shadow pack after Zach took power. He must have been planning this attack for months, waiting for the perfect moment to strike. [music] And now he had Sophia. Zach’s wolf exploded out of him. One moment he was human, and the next he was a massive black wolf with eyes glowing red with alpha fury.

He threw back his head and howled, a sound of pure rage and grief that echoed across the entire territory. Every wolf in Silver Moon heard that howl. And every wolf knew what it meant. War was coming. Zach didn’t [music] wait for his warriors to assemble. He didn’t make a plan or gather supplies or do any of the things a smart alpha was supposed to do before marching into enemy territory. He just [music] ran.

His wolf carried him through the forest faster than he’d ever moved before. The trees blurred past him as he followed Sophia’s scent. Lavender and honey mixed with the sharp tang of fear. She was alive. She was scared. And she was getting farther away with every passing second. [music] The shadow pack territory was 3 hours away by car.

[music] Zach made it in 90 minutes on four paws. He didn’t stop to rest. He didn’t slow down when his muscles burned and his lungs screamed for air. He just kept running. The border of Shadowpack territory was marked by a line of ancient oak trees carved with warning symbols. Any wolf who crossed without permission was considered an enemy.

Zach didn’t hesitate. He crashed through the border at full speed and immediately found himself surrounded by shadow packac warriors. There were at least 20 of them. all shifted and ready to fight. They formed a circle around Zach with their teeth bared and their hackles [music] raised. “Stand down, Alpha Zack!” one of them growled.

“You’re outnumbered. Surrender and we might let you live.” Zach’s response was a snull that made several of the warriors take a step [music] back. He was one wolf against 20. The smart thing to do would be to retreat and return with his own army. But Sophia was somewhere in this territory. [music] Sophia was scared and alone, and Zach had promised to protect her.

He attacked. The first wolf fell before he even knew what was happening. Zach’s jaws closed around his [music] throat and ripped it open in a spray of blood. The second wolf lasted slightly [music] longer, about 2 seconds. By the time the rest of the warriors recovered from their shock, three of their packmates were dead on the ground.

They came at him all at once. Claws rad across Zach’s sides. [music] Teeth sank into his legs, his shoulders, his back. Pain exploded through his body [music] as the wolves tore into him from every direction. But Zach didn’t stop fighting. He couldn’t. Sophia needed him. He killed four more wolves before his legs gave [music] out.

The old injury had never fully healed, and the strain of the run combined with the battle was [music] too much. His hind legs crumpled beneath him, and he crashed [music] to the ground. The remaining wolves piled on top of him, pinning him down with their combined weight. Zach snarled and snapped, but it was no use. He was trapped.

Impressive,” a familiar voice said. Victor emerged from the shadows in human form, wearing an expensive suit that looked ridiculous in the middle of the forest. “I knew you’d come alone. You always were more brave than smart.” Zach [music] shifted back to human, ignoring the agony of his wounds.

“Where is she? Where’s Sophia?” “Safe for now.” Victor crouched down so he was eye level with Zach. She’s a remarkable child, you know. Her wolf is already [music] stronger than most adult shifters. The things we could do with that power. If you hurt her, I’ll kill everyone in this pack. Every single one. So dramatic.

Victor stood up and brushed dirt off his pants. I’m not going to hurt her, Zach. I’m going to use her. See, Drake was an idiot. He saw a daughter when he should have seen an opportunity. A wolf that powerful bonded to a child that young. She could be trained, molded, turned into the perfect weapon. She’s 7 years old, which means she has plenty of time to learn.

Victor smiled coldly. But don’t [music] worry, you won’t be around to see it. Kill him. The wolves moved to obey, but before they could strike a new howl, split the air. It was answered by another and another and another. Within seconds, the forest was filled with wolves. Silver moon wolves led by Amber in her beautiful silver form.

They crashed into the shadow pack warriors like a tidal wave, scattering them in every direction. Amber herself went [music] straight for Victor, shifting mid leap and slamming him to the ground with her full weight. “Where is my daughter?” she roared. Victor laughed, even with Amber’s claws at his throat. You’re too late, wolfless girl.

Sophia is already on her way to the council. By the time you find her, she’ll be miles away, surrounded by wolves who will kill her before they let you take [music] her back. You’re lying. Am I? Check the pack house if you don’t believe me. It’s [music] empty. Everyone evacuated hours ago.

This whole thing was a trap to keep you busy while we moved the girl. Amber’s [music] face went pale. She looked at Zach with desperate eyes. He’s telling the truth. I can smell it. She’s not here. Zach struggled [music] to his feet, ignoring the blood pouring from his wounds. His wolf was screaming at him to rest, to heal, [music] to stop pushing his broken body so hard, but he couldn’t stop. He wouldn’t stop.

The council, he said, where are they taking her? Victor just smiled, [music] Amber’s claws tightened on his throat. Answer him or I’ll rip your head off. The Midnight Summit. It’s a gathering of all the pack leaders. They meet once a year to discuss territory [music] disputes and alliances. This year, they’re meeting at Wolf’s Peak Mountain.

3 days from now, Sophia will be presented to the council as an orphan with no pack. They’ll auction her off to the highest bidder. [music] over my dead body,” Zach growled. “That can be arranged.” Victor’s eyes gleamed with malice. “But consider [music] this, Alpha Zack. Even if you make it to Wolf’s Peak, how will you prove she’s yours? You have no blood claim to her.

[music] Amber was mated to Drake when Sophia was born. Legally, the child belongs to Drake’s bloodline, and since Drake is dead, his pack inherits his property.” Amber finished with horror in her voice, including his daughter. Exactly. The shadow pack has already filed the paperwork. As far as the council is concerned, Sophia is our property, not yours.

Zach wanted to tear Victor apart, piece by piece. He wanted to make the man suffer for every moment of fear Sophia had experienced. But killing Victor wouldn’t bring Sophia back. Only one thing could do that. We’re going to Wolf’s Peak, Zach said, and we’re going to get our daughter back legally. Amber stared at him.

How? I don’t know yet, but I’ll figure it out. He looked down at Victor [music] with cold fury in his eyes. Lock him up. We’ll deal with him when we get back. The Silver Moon wolves dragged Victor away. Amber shifted back to human [music] and ran to Zach’s side, catching him as his legs finally gave out completely. You’re hurt, she said.

You need a healer. I need Sophia. You won’t be able to save her if you’re dead. Please, Zach, let me help you. Zach wanted to argue, but his body had other ideas. The world spun around him, and then everything went black. Zach woke up in the Silver Moon Hospital with bandages covering most of his [music] body.

Amber was asleep in a chair beside his bed with dark circles under her eyes and tear tracks on her cheeks. She looked like she hadn’t slept in days. How long? Zack croked. Amber’s eyes flew open. Zack, thank the goddess you’re awake. You’ve been unconscious for almost 2 days. The healers said you pushed your body too hard. your legs.

She trailed off and Zach felt his heart sink. How bad? The nerves are damaged again. Not as badly as before, but Amber took a shaky breath. The healers say you might not walk for weeks, maybe longer. Zach closed his eyes. 2 days unconscious, weeks before he could walk. The council meeting was in one day.

Sophia, he said, “We have to.” I know. I’ve been working on it while you were sleeping. Amber pulled out a stack of papers from beside her chair. I’ve been researching the council’s laws, looking for any loophole that might help us. And there’s one possibility. It’s risky, but it might work. She handed [music] him the papers.

According to ancient pack law, a child belongs to their mother’s bloodline if the father is proven unfit. Drake tried to kill [music] Sophia. If we can prove that to the council, they might rule that he forfeited [music] his claim to her. But Drake is dead. How do we prove what a dead man did? Witnesses, [music] there were pack members who saw what happened that night.

Who saw Drake attack Sophia and me? Amber’s voice hardened. [music] I’ve already contacted them. Three of them have agreed to testify. That’s not enough. The Shadow Pack will say they’re lying. They’ll say we bribed them or threatened them. I know. That’s why I found something else. Amber reached into her pocket and pulled out a small flash drive.

Drake kept records of everything. every punishment he gave, every order he made, every person he hurt. [music] He was proud of his cruelty, Zach. He documented it like a trophy collection. Where did you find this? Hidden in his office. I spent 2 years as his prisoner, Zach. I know every secret that pack house holds.

She placed the flash drive in his hand. This has everything. Video of Drake trying to kill Sophia. audio of him ordering her to be sent away. Written records of every terrible thing he did to me and to her. It’s all here. Zach [music] stared at the flash drive. Such a small thing, but it might be enough to save their daughter.

We need to get to Wolf’s Peak, he said. I can’t walk. I can’t even stand. How am I supposed to? You’re not going alone. Amber stood up and crossed to the window. She whistled sharply and the door burst open. Sophia’s foster mother, Elellanena, walked in, followed by Thomas the Alpha of Blue Ridge.

Behind them came a dozen other alphas that Zach recognized from neighboring [music] packs. What is this? Zach asked. Help, Amber said simply. I sent word to every pack that Drake [music] ever wronged. Every alpha he insulted or threatened or stole from. They all have reasons to want the Shadow Pack brought down, and they all have votes on the council.

Thomas stepped forward. Ala Zach, your mate told us what happened. The Shadow Pack has broken a dozen laws by kidnapping your daughter. We’re here to make sure justice is done. We’ll carry you to Wolf’s Peak ourselves if we have to, Elena added. That little girl deserves to be with her family. Zach felt tears [music] prick his eyes.

He’d spent 5 years alone in the wilderness, convinced that he was worthless, because he couldn’t walk. He’d pushed away the woman he loved because he thought he couldn’t protect her. And now here he was, surrounded by allies who had come to help him because his mate had asked. He’d been wrong about everything.

Strength wasn’t about walking or fighting or being physically perfect. Strength was about the people who stood beside you. Strength was about love. Thank you, he said horsely. All of you. I don’t know how to repay. You can repay us by being a good alpha, Thomas said. By raising that little girl to be as brave and kind as her mother.

By showing the world that the silver moon pack is worthy of respect. I will, [music] Zach promised. I swear it. They left for Wolf’s Peak that afternoon. >> [music] >> Zach traveled in a specially equipped van that allowed him to rest while the convoy of Allied wolves made their way up the mountain.

Amber sat beside him the whole time, holding his hand and going over their strategy. The plan was simple. [music] They would present their evidence to the council and demand that Sophia be returned to her rightful family. If the council refused, they would call for a vote. [music] With so many allied alphas on their side, they had a good chance of winning.

But nothing about the Werewolf Council [music] was ever simple. Wolf’s Peak Mountain was a sacred place, neutral territory where no pack could claim. Dominance. The Council Hall was built into the mountainside, a massive structure of stone and [music] wood that had stood for over a thousand years. Every major decision in werewolf history had been made within those walls.

The council meeting was already in session when they arrived. Zach could hear voices echoing from inside the hall. Dozens of alphas arguing about territory and resources and all the petty disputes that came with running a pack. And somewhere in that building was Sophia. Zach’s wolf could feel her presence.

She was scared and confused, but she was alive. That was all that mattered. “Ready?” Amber asked. Zach looked at his mate, his beautiful, brave mate, who had survived 5 years of abuse and emerged stronger than ever. He looked at the allies who had come to stand [music] beside them. He looked at his own broken legs that might never work properly again. “Ready,” he said.

The doors of the council hall swung open and Zach rolled his wheelchair inside. Every eye in the room turned to stare at him. The Silver Moon Alpha who couldn’t walk, the who had somehow reclaimed his [music] pack. I demand to address the council, Zach announced. I am here to reclaim my daughter. The council hall fell silent.

50 alphas sat in a massive circle [music] around a central platform where disputes were presented and judged. At the head of the circle sat the high alpha, an ancient wolf named Magnus, who had led the council for over 60 years. [music] His hair was white as snow and his face was lined with wrinkles, but his eyes were sharp as steel.

“Alpha Zack of Silver Moon,” Magnus said in a voice that echoed [music] through the chamber. You were not scheduled to speak today. What is the meaning of this interruption? With respect, high alpha, I have urgent business before this council. A child has been stolen from my pack. My daughter Sophia. I demand her immediate return.

A murmur rippled through the crowd. Magnus raised his hand for silence. The council is aware of the situation regarding the child. However, we have received documentation from the Shadow Pack claiming legal custody. According to their records, Sophia is the daughter of the late Alpha [music] Drake. As Drake’s former pack, they have inheritance rights.

Those records are lies, Amber [music] said, stepping forward. I am Sophia’s mother. I was Drake’s mate against my will. He claimed me through violence and held me prisoner for 5 years. He tried to murder our daughter because she wasn’t a son. Everything the shadow pack [music] has told you is false. Another murmur. This one louder and more shocked.

Magnus studied Amber with interest. You are the wolfless Luna, the one who killed Alpha [music] Drake. I am. My wolf emerged to protect my family. I make no apologies for defending my child and my true mate. Your true mate? [music] Magnus’s eyes moved to Zach. Explain. Zach rolled his wheelchair to the center of the platform.

[music] He could feel the stairs of the other alphas. Some curious, some pitying, some openly contemptuous. [music] A crippled alpha was almost unheard of in their world. Many probably thought he should have stepped down the moment his legs failed. [music] Let them stare. Let them judge. Zach didn’t care what they thought. Amber and I have been in love since we were children.

[music] Zach said when she turned 18 and her wolf didn’t emerge, I planned to claim her anyway. I didn’t care that she was wolfless. I only cared that she was mine. He paused, gathering his thoughts. But 3 days before the claiming ceremony, I was injured in a rogue attack. Silver spikes destroyed the nerves in my spine. I lost the use of my legs and I thought I had lost everything else too.

So you withdrew from the claiming, Magnus said, and Drake took your place. I withdrew because I thought I couldn’t protect her. I thought I was doing the right thing by letting her go. I was wrong. Zach’s voice [music] cracked. I abandoned the woman I loved to a monster. For 5 years, she suffered because of my cowardice.

But I’m not running anymore. [music] I’ve come to take back what’s mine. My mate, my daughter, my family. The hall was completely [music] silent. Even the alphas who had been whispering among themselves had stopped to listen. Magnus leaned forward in his chair. These are serious accusations, Alpha [music] Zach.

Do you have proof that Drake abused his mate and child? I do. Amber stepped [music] forward, holding up the flash drive. This contains video and audio recordings made [music] by Drake himself. He documented every act of cruelty like they were achievements to be proud of, including the night he tried to kill our daughter. She handed the flash drive to one of the council attendants who inserted it into a computer connected to a large screen.

The first video began to play. It showed Drake’s office in the Silver Moon pack house. Drake was sitting behind his desk with a smug smile on his face, speaking directly to the camera. Day 1,047 of my reign as Alpha of Silver Moon. Today, I finally dealt with the problem of my defective daughter. The brat wouldn’t stop crying for her worthless mother, so I decided [music] to shut her up permanently.

Unfortunately, my pathetic mate interfered. I beat her within an inch of her life, but the child escaped. No matter. I’ve arranged to have the girl sent away. As far as anyone will know, she died of illness. [music] The Silver Moon Pack has no need for weaklings. The video ended. The silence in the hall was deafening.

[music] Magnus’ [clears throat] face had gone pale with fury. Is there more? Much more? Amber [music] said, “Hours of recordings, Drake bragging about starving me, beating [music] me, locking me in the basement for weeks at a time. He kept records of every punishment he gave. [music] Dates, times, methods.

He was proud of what he did to us.” Another video played. This one showed Drake standing over a cowering amber with his fist raised. [music] “You think anyone cares about a wolfless piece of trash like you? You’re nothing. You’re less than nothing. The only reason you’re still alive is because killing you would be too [music] much paperwork.

Now get up and make my dinner before I really lose my temper. The video cut to another scene. Drake holding a tiny Sophia by the arm, shaking her violently while she screamed, “Shut up. Shut up, you worthless brat. [music] I wanted a son, a strong wolf to carry on my bloodline, not this pathetic whimpering thing.” Amber’s voice came from offscreen.

Please, Drake. She’s just a baby. Please don’t hurt her. Then make her stop crying or I’ll give her something to really cry about. The screen went dark. Several alphas in the audience had tears in their eyes. Others looked like they wanted to tear Drake apart with their bare hands, even though he was already dead.

Magnus stood slowly from his chair. His whole body was trembling with barely contained rage. Where is the representative from the shadow pack? A nervousl looking man in the back row stood up. I am Beta Conrad high alpha. I speak for the shadow pack in [music] the absence of our alpha. Your alpha is dead. Magnus said coldly.

Killed by the very mate he abused. And now your pack comes [music] before this council claiming custody of the child he tried to murder. On what grounds? Conrad’s face had gone white. We we were not aware of the full circumstances. High Alpha. Victor told us the child was an orphan.

He said Victor is a liar and a kidnapper. Zach interrupted. He orchestrated the abduction of my daughter. He bombed my pack house on her birthday. He’s currently in my dungeon waiting to face [music] justice. Conrad looked like he wanted to sink through the floor. The shadow pack. We did not authorize any attack. Victor acted alone. We had no knowledge of enough.

Magnus’ voice cut through the hall like a blade. I have heard enough lies from the shadow pack to last a lifetime. This council will now vote on the matter of custody. All alphas in favor of returning the child Sophia to her mother Amber and her stepfather Alpha Zach of Silver Moon raise your hands.

Hands shot up all around the chamber. Thomas from Blue Ridge. Elellanena’s mate from her pack. The dozen alphas who had traveled with Zach and Amber. And then more hands. Alphas who had no connection to Silver Moon, but who had been moved by the evidence they’d seen. When the count was finished, [music] 43 of the 50 alphas had voted in favor.

Magnus nodded with grim satisfaction. The motion carries. Sophia is hereby returned to the custody of her mother, Amber, and [music] her family. The Silver Moon Pack is recognized as her legal guardians. The Shadow Pack’s claim is rejected, and [music] their representative will be detained for questioning regarding Victor’s crimes.

Guards moved to take Conrad into custody. The beta didn’t resist. [music] He seemed almost relieved to be getting away from the furious gazes of the other alphas. “Where is my daughter?” Amber demanded. [music] “Where are you keeping her?” “She is in the holding chambers below the hall,” Magnus said.

“I will have her brought up immediately.” The minutes that followed were the longest of Zach’s [music] life. He sat in his wheelchair with Amber gripping his hand so tightly her knuckles were white. Every second felt like an eternity. And then the doors at the back of the hall opened and a small [music] figure appeared.

Sophia looked exhausted and scared. Her clothes were dirty and her hair was tangled. [music] But the moment she saw Amber, her whole face lit up with joy. Mama. Sophia [music] sprinted across the hall and threw herself into Amber’s arms. Mother and daughter clung to each other, sobbing and laughing [music] and saying, “I love you.

” over and over again. Zach watched them with tears streaming down his face, his family, his [music] pack, his reason for living. Sophia lifted her head from Amber’s shoulder and looked at Zach. Papa, you came for me. You really came? I promised I would, sweetheart. I promised I’d make everything right. Sophia wiggled out of Amber’s arms and climbed into Zach’s lap.

She wrapped her small arms around his neck and hugged him with all her strength. I knew you’d find me. My wolf told me not to be scared. She said my papa was coming and he would never let anyone hurt me again. Your wolf is very smart, Zach said. I will never let anyone hurt you, Sophia. [music] Never.

As long as I live, you will always be safe. The hall erupted in applause. 50 alphas, the most powerful wolves in the world, stood and cheered for the broken family that had finally been made whole. Magnus waited for the noise to die down before speaking again. There is one more matter to address. Alpha [music] Zach, you have proven yourself a worthy leader today, but I must ask, how do you intend to rule your pack when [music] you cannot walk?” The question hung in the air.

Zach could see the doubt in some of the alpha’s eyes. They respected what he’d done, but they still wondered if a crippled alpha could truly lead. “Zack was about to answer when Sophia spoke up. “My papa doesn’t need to walk,” she said in her clear, high voice. He has the biggest, strongest heart of anyone in the whole world.

That’s what makes a real alpha, not legs. The hall fell silent again, and then slowly Magnus began to [music] smile. Out of the mouths of children, the high alpha said, “The girl speaks wisdom beyond her years. Alpha Zach, you have my respect and the respect of this council. May your reign be long and prosperous. Thank you, High Alpha, Zach said.

But there’s one more thing I need to do before we leave. He looked at Amber with all the love in his heart. I claimed Amber as my mate after Drake died, but I never did it properly. I never asked her in front of witnesses. I never gave her the choice she deserved. He took Amber’s hand in his.

Amber, I have loved you since we were children. I was a fool to let you go, and I will spend the rest of my life making [music] up for that mistake. Will you do me the honor of being my Luna, my partner, my mate [music] for all eternity? Amber’s eyes sparkled with tears. Yes, a thousand times. Yes. Zach pulled her down for a kiss, and the hall exploded in tears once more.

When they finally broke apart, Sophia was bouncing excitedly [music] between them. Does this mean we’re a real family now? Forever and ever. Forever and ever, sweetheart, Amber said. [music] Nothing will ever separate us again. The journey home to Silver Moon felt like a victory parade. Word had spread throughout the werewolf world about what happened at the council.

The crippled alpha who had reclaimed his mate. The wolfless Luna who had found her wolf. the little girl whose testimony had moved 50 of the most powerful wolves in existence. By the time they reached Silver Moon territory, the entire pack had [music] gathered to welcome them home. Wolves of all ages lined the road, cheering and howling [music] and throwing flowers in their path.

Sophia giggled and waved like a princess, which made the pack love her even more. Look, Mama. Look, Papa. Everyone’s so happy. They’re happy because you’re home safe, Amber said. They love you very much. I love them, too. All of them. Even the grumpy ones. The pack house had been rebuilt in the weeks since the attack. The wolves had worked around the clock to repair the damage clearing rubble and raising new walls and making the structure even stronger than before.

A banner hung over the entrance reading, “Welcome home, Alpha family.” That night, the pack threw the biggest celebration in Silver Moon history. There was music and dancing and enough food to feed an army. Sophia stayed up way past her bedtime, running around with the other pups and getting [music] chocolate cake all over her face.

Zach watched from his wheelchair with Amber beside him. His legs still didn’t work properly. The healers [music] said it might be months before he could walk again, if ever. But somehow that didn’t seem so important anymore. “What are you thinking about?” Amber asked. “How lucky I am,” Zach said.

“5 years ago, I thought my life was over. I thought I was broken beyond repair. But look at us now. We have each [music] other. We have Sophia. We have a pack that loves us. I wouldn’t trade any of it for the ability to walk. I wouldn’t trade it either.” Amber rested her head on his shoulder. Although I do miss the days when you could sweep me off my feet.

I can still do [music] that. Zach’s eyes gleamed mischievously. Watch. Before Amber could react, Zach grabbed her around the waist and pulled her into his lap. She shrieked with surprise, then dissolved into laughter as he tickled her sides. Zack, stop. Everyone’s watching. Let them watch. I want the whole world to know how much I love my Luna.

He kissed her deeply and the pack erupted in wolf whistles and cheers. When they finally came up for air, Sophia was standing in front of them with her hands on her hips. Are you two done being gross? I want to show you something. What is it, sweetheart? Come see. Well, [music] Papa can’t really come, but Mama can carry me and you can roll alongside us.

It’s not far, I promise. They followed Sophia around the side of the pack [music] house to a small garden that Amber had planted years ago. During Drake’s reign, the garden had been neglected and overgrown, but now it had been completely restored with neat rows of flowers and vegetables [music] and a little stone path winding through the middle.

“The other pups helped me fix it,” Sophia said proudly. We wanted to surprise you, mama. We know how much you missed your garden. Amber’s eyes filled with tears. Oh, Sophia, [music] it’s beautiful. It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen. There’s more. Look in the corner. In the far corner of the garden stood a small wooden bench.

It had been carved with intricate designs of wolves and flowers, and in the center was an inscription. for our alpha family with love from your pack. The grown-ups made that part, Sophia admitted. I just picked the flowers for the pots. Do you like it, Papa? Zack couldn’t [music] speak. The lump in his throat was too big.

He just nodded and held out his arms. Sophia climbed into his lap and hugged him tight. I love you, Papa. I’m really, really glad you came back for us. I love you, too, Pumpkin. I’m really, really glad I did, too. The three of them sat together in the moonlight, surrounded by flowers and love, and the sounds of their pack celebrating in the distance.

It wasn’t the life Zach had imagined for himself when he was young. He had pictured himself as a powerful [music] alpha, standing tall and strong, leading his pack through strength alone. But this was better. This was real. Zach had learned something important in the years since his injury.

Being broken didn’t mean being worthless. Sometimes the cracks were where the light got in. Sometimes falling apart was the only way to be put back together into [music] something stronger. He had Amber. He had Sophia. He had a pack that loved him. Not despite his weakness, [music] but because of the strength he’d shown in overcoming it.

What more could any [music] alpha ask for? 10 years passed. Sophia grew from a precocious seven-year-old into [music] a fierce and beautiful young woman. Her wolf had emerged on her 13th birthday. A stunning silver creature, even larger and more powerful than her mothers. The pack elders said they’d never [music] seen anything like it.

“She’s going to be the strongest alpha in a 100red years,” they whispered. “Maybe the strongest [music] ever.” Sophia herself didn’t care much about being powerful. She was more interested in helping [music] others than dominating them. She spent her teenage years training the younger pups, organizing pack events, and caring for the elderly wolves who couldn’t take care of themselves.

She gets that from her mother, Zach always said. And Amber would smile and reply, she gets it from both of us. Zach’s legs had never fully recovered. He could walk short distances with a cane, but for anything longer, he still needed his wheelchair. It didn’t bother him anymore. He’d learned to lead from wherever he was sitting.

[music] In the council chamber, in the training grounds, in the great hall, during pack meetings, his wolves didn’t see a when they looked at him. They saw an alpha who had overcome impossible odds to protect his family. They saw a leader who judged others by their hearts, not their bodies. They saw a father who had crossed [music] enemy territory alone and bleeding just to save [music] his daughter.

That was the kind of alpha they wanted to follow. On Sophia’s [music] 18th birthday, the pack threw another massive celebration. It was tradition for young wolves to be formally presented to the pack [music] on this day, acknowledged as full adults with all the rights and responsibilities that came with the title.

But this year’s ceremony was special. This year the alpha’s daughter was coming of age. Are you nervous? Amber asked as she helped Sophia into her ceremonial dress. A little, Sophia admitted. What if I trip? What if I forget my lines? What if my wolf does something embarrassing? Your wolf is part of you, sweetheart. Whatever she does will be perfect because it comes from your heart.

Mama, that’s sweet. but also not helpful at all. Amber laughed. Fine. If you trip, just pretend you meant to do it. If [music] you forget your lines, make something up. And if your wolf does something embarrassing, remember that your father once sneezed during a council meeting and accidentally shifted into wolf form in front of 50 alphas.

He did not. He absolutely did. Ask him about it sometime. The look on Magnus’s face was priceless. Sophia was still giggling when it was time for the ceremony to begin. She walked into the great hall with her head held high and her silver hair flowing [music] behind her. Every wolf in the pack had gathered to witness this moment, the formal presentation of [music] their future alpha.

Zach sat on the raised platform at the front of the hall with Amber beside him. His heart swelled with pride as he [music] watched his daughter approach. She was so tall now, so strong, so beautiful. How had that tiny baby he’d promised to protect [music] become this incredible young woman? Sophia, daughter of Amber and adopted daughter of Alpha Zach, the pack elder announced.

You stand before your pack on the day of your maturity. Are you prepared to accept the duties and responsibilities of an adult wolf? I am, Sophia said clearly. Do you swear to protect your [music] pack with your life? To defend the weak and challenge the unjust? To honor the bonds of family and loyalty that make us strong? I swear.

And do you accept your place as heir [music] to the Silver Moon Pack, ready to lead when the time comes? Sophia paused. She looked at Zach and Amber with love shining in her eyes. I accept, but I have a request first. the whole murmured with surprise. It was unusual for a wolf to make requests during the ceremony. Zach raised an eyebrow but nodded for Sophia to continue.

For 18 years, I have called Zach my papa. He has raised me and loved me and protected me. He came for me when I was lost. He carried me home when I was found. He is my father in every way that matters. Sophia’s voice grew stronger. But according to Paclaw, I am still considered the daughter of Drake. His name is on my records.

His blood is my official lineage. I want that to change. I want to be formally adopted into [music] the house of Zach and Amber. I want to carry their name, not the name of the monster who tried to kill me. The hall was completely silent. Then it exploded with cheers. Approve. Approve. The wolves chanted. Let her be his daughter.

Zach couldn’t stop the tears streaming down his face. [music] He rose from his chair slowly, painfully until he was standing on his own two feet. Amber gasped and moved to help him, but he waved her away. This moment required him to stand. Sophia ran to him and he caught her in his arms, hugging her so tightly. She squeaked.

[music] “You’ve always been my daughter,” he whispered. always from the very first moment I saw you. I know, Papa, but now it’s official. The elder cleared his throat. [music] By the power vested in me by the silver moon pack, I hereby recognize the formal adoption of Sophia into the house of Alpha Zach and Luna Amber.

From this day forward, she shall be known as Sophia Silver Moon, heir to the Alpha line. May her reign be long and just. The hall erupted again. Wolves howled and stamped [music] their feet and shouted, “Congratulations!” Sophia beamed and Amber cried and Zach stood tall on his shaky legs, refusing to sit down until the celebration began.

It was the happiest moment of his life. The years continued to pass. Zach and Amber grew older together, watching their pack thrive [music] and their daughter blossom into an extraordinary leader. Sophia took over more and more responsibilities, giving her parents time to rest and enjoy each other’s company.

On their 25th anniversary as mates, Zach took Amber back to the clearing where they had first met as children. His legs [music] could barely carry him anymore, but he was determined to make this moment perfect. “Do you remember this place?” he asked. “Of course I do.” Amber smiled softly. We used to catch fireflies here.

You would put them in jars and give them to me like they were diamonds. I wanted [music] to give you real diamonds, but I was eight and broke. I liked the fireflies better. They were alive. They glowed from the inside just like you. Zach took her hands in his. They were both gray-haired now, [music] their faces lined with decades of laughter and tears.

But when he looked at her, he still saw the girl he’d fallen in love with all those years ago. I wasted so much time, he said, 5 years apart because I was too proud to ask for help. Too scared to believe I could still be worthy of you. You found your way back. That’s what matters. I almost didn’t.

If you hadn’t killed Drake, if your wolf hadn’t emerged at exactly the right moment, I would have died on that floor [music] and Sophia would still be a prisoner of the shadow pack. But that’s not what happened. We found each other. We saved our daughter. We built a [music] life worth living. Why torture yourself with whatifs? Because I need you to know something.

[music] I need you to know that you saved me. Amber, not the other way around. Everyone talks about how I came back for you, [music] but the truth is you came back for me. Your love gave me a reason to keep fighting. Your strength showed me that broken things can still be beautiful. [music] Everything good in my life, everything started with you.

>> I love you. I have always loved you. And when we’re old and gray and our grandchildren are running around causing chaos, I will still love you just as much as I do right now. Maybe more. >> We’re already old and gray, dummy. >> Then I guess I already love you more. He kissed her under the stars just like he dreamed of doing when he was a young wolf with working legs and a heart full of hope.

The kiss was just as sweet now as it would have been then. Maybe sweeter because now they’d earned it. Sophia became alpha of the silver moon pack on her 30th birthday. Zach and Amber stepped down gladly, [music] passing the torch to the daughter they loved more than life itself. Under Sophia’s leadership, the pack [music] grew stronger than ever.

She formed alliances with packs across the territory. She established schools for young wolves and healing centers for those who had been abused. She created laws protecting wolfless members of the community, ensuring that no one would ever be called defective or worthless again. And when she found her own mate, a [music] kind, gentle wolf named Marco, who made her laugh, Zach walked her down the aisle at her wedding ceremony.

[music] His legs screamed in protest with every step, but he made it all the way to the altar because some things were worth any amount of pain. Sophia had three children, twin boys and a girl. She named the girl Amber after her mother and the boys Zach and Marcus after her two fathers. >> The one who raised me and the one who helped create me.

Both of them are part of who I am. >> Zach lived to see his grandchildren grow up. He taught them how to track prey through the forest. He told them stories about the old days when their grandmother was called wolfless and their grandfather [music] couldn’t walk. He showed them that strength came in many forms and that love was the most powerful force in the universe.

On the night Zach finally passed away, he was surrounded by everyone he loved. Amber held his hand. Sophia stroked his hair. [music] His grandchildren pressed close, trying to memorize every detail of his face. >> Don’t be sad. I’ve had the most wonderful life, more wonderful than I ever deserved.

Everything Papaya taught me. What it meant to be strong. What it meant to never give up. [music] >> No, sweetheart. You taught me that. >> He smiled at each of them one last time. His eyes lingered on Amber, his mate. His love is everything. >> I’ll wait for you however long it takes. I’ll be [music] right there waiting. >> I know you will.

You always come back for me. >> Zach closed his eyes and let go. The silver moon pack howled their grief to the sky that night. Their alpha was gone, but his legacy lived on in his daughter and grandchildren and the countless lives he had touched during his years of leadership. In the pack house, there was a portrait of Zach and Amber hanging in the great hall.

It showed them on their wedding day. Zach in his wheelchair with Amber perched on his lap. both of them laughing at something [music] someone had said off camera. Below the portrait was a plaque with a simple inscription, “True strength [music] is not measured in steps, but in love. It was the perfect ending to a perfect story, or rather the perfect beginning, because the Silver Moon Pack was just getting started. Thank you.
