🏈 Jets QB Justin Fields Sidelined with Concussion; Tyrod Taylor to Start Against Buccaneers

NEW YORK — The New York Jets will be without starting quarterback Justin Fields this week after he suffered a concussion during Sunday’s loss, the team announced on Thursday. Veteran backup Tyrod Taylor is set to start in his place when the Jets face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fields exited late in the third quarter after taking a hard hit while scrambling. He was evaluated in the medical tent before being ruled out for the remainder of the game. Head coach Aaron Glenn confirmed that Fields remains in the league’s concussion protocol and will not be cleared in time for Week 8.

“Player safety comes first,” Glenn said during his Thursday press conference. “Justin’s a competitor, but we’re not taking any risks with head injuries. Tyrod’s a pro, he’s prepared, and we trust him to lead this offense.”

Taylor, a 13-year NFL veteran, will make his first start of the season. Known for his composure and mobility, he brings valuable experience to a Jets team struggling to find consistency on offense.

“I’ve been preparing every week like I’m the starter,” Taylor told reporters. “Nothing changes — my job is to move the chains, protect the football, and give us a chance to win.”

The Jets, currently 0–7, will look to secure their first victory of the season when they host the Buccaneers on Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium.
