Sen. Cory Booker Sounds Alarm: “Something Must Be Done About Trump Before Our Democracy Is Completely Destroyed”

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senator Cory Booker (D–N.J.) issued one of his strongest warnings yet about the state of American democracy, declaring that “something must be done about Donald Trump” before, in his words, “our democracy is completely destroyed.”

Speaking to reporters outside the Capitol on Friday, Booker blasted the former president’s leadership as “the most corrupt administration in generations,” warning that the erosion of democratic norms has continued well beyond Trump’s time in office.

“We are facing a crisis of integrity in our government,” Booker said. “The damage that was done under Donald Trump didn’t end when he left the White House. It’s still poisoning our politics, our institutions, and our national spirit.”

Booker accused Trump and his allies of “normalizing dishonesty, hate, and lawlessness,” adding that Congress and the American people must act decisively to “protect the rule of law before it’s too late.”

While Booker did not specify what steps he believes should be taken, sources close to his office say the senator is advocating for stronger federal safeguards to prevent election interference and abuse of executive power.

The comments come amid growing tensions in Washington as Trump faces multiple criminal trials and as several Republican lawmakers continue to echo his unsubstantiated claims of election fraud. Booker, who has long framed democracy protection as a moral issue, said the stakes now extend far beyond partisanship.

“This is not about left or right — it’s about right and wrong,” he said. “We either hold people accountable who try to undermine our democracy, or we accept a future where power and corruption go unchecked.”

Booker’s remarks quickly went viral online, with supporters praising his “moral clarity,” while critics accused him of political grandstanding ahead of the 2026 election cycle.

Still, his message was unambiguous — and urgent:

“If we stay silent,” Booker warned, “then we will lose the very idea of America that generations fought to protect.”
