Director of Homeland Security — and noted cosplay enthusiast — Kristi Noem just found out she’s standing in front of a firing squad. Figuratively, of course. Not the kind she reportedly sends immigrants to in foreign prisons.

Welcome to Occupy Democrats, I’m David Reddish — and yes, the big blue package behind me is a major holiday surprise. Subscribe so you don’t miss the reveal. With that out of the way, let’s talk about why Kristi Noem’s week just went from bad to catastrophic.

In the chaos of Trump 2.0, nearly every cabinet member is wildly unpopular for one reason or another. But Kristi Noem? She’s in a league of her own. If you doubt it, go watch South Park’s unflattering portrayal of her — no spoilers, but let’s just say the animators had thoughts about her face.

Setting aside the infamous dead-dog-in-the-memoir story and her carefully curated Mar-a-Lago aesthetic, the public has plenty of other grievances. There are the deportations to questionable overseas detention centers. There’s the photo op at an immigration facility where she posed like it was a luxury watch campaign. And of course, there’s the widely discussed allegation that she only secured the DHS job because of an alleged affair with Trump adviser Corey Lewandowski — both reportedly married to other people.

So, no, America is not exactly sending Kristi Noem fan mail.

Over the weekend, she visited Chicago, and the Windy City made its feelings very clear — despite temperatures cold enough to kill your soul. She arrived for a heartwarming Coast Guard holiday tradition delivering free Christmas trees to families… and was greeted by Chicagoans who wanted her out of their city.

Chicago’s mayor offered a blistering response, making it clear Noem’s policies have caused fear and harm — and that the city wants DHS to leave its residents alone.

But that was just Part One.

Because once Noem gets back to Washington, she’s walking into a political buzzsaw. According to MS Now, multiple White House sources say she’s on “very thin ice” and could be fired as early as next month.

Why? Enter Stephen Miller — Trump adviser, anti-immigration hardliner, and the closest thing America has to a real-life Nosferatu. Miller is reportedly furious that Noem hasn’t built migrant detention facilities fast enough, despite receiving tens of billions in funding earlier this year. He’s also upset that governors have complained directly to Trump about her mishandling of FEMA disaster relief funds.

So yes — let that sink in: Noem may be ousted because she’s not harsh enough for Stephen Miller. Imagine trying to keep your job by out-cruelty-ing Stephen Miller. Good luck.

MS Now reports that Trump already has a short list of replacements, with top contenders including outgoing Virginia governor Glenn Youngkin and acting ICE director Todd Lyons.

All signs suggest Noem’s days are numbered.

And honestly… which is worse? Stephen Miller trying to dial immigration cruelty up to 11, or Kristi Noem hanging on to her job after everything we’ve seen? Hard to say. But either way, Noem’s holiday season is shaping up to be anything but merry.

This is Occupy Democrats.
